When thinking about different weapons kits, I considered the Griffon (missile) variant, and this little skit played out in my head:

Adeptus Mechanicus techpriests are on the proving grounds. An Armageddon enclosure with a missile sticking out of the aperture is in the background. In an enormous gout of flame, the missile shoots out of the enclosure, quickly striking a target drone flying overhead.

A few seconds later the rear hatch of the enclosure opens, and servitors with shovels begin extracting charcoal wearing IG uniforms.

The techpriest has a list on a clipboard:
Basilisk cannon (check)
Medusa cannon (check)
Hydra cannon (check)
Griffon missile (the techpriest slowly crosses this one out)

Gothic window strip - making casts.

Emitter tip - making casts.

Control point tower and floaty top - realized that something weird happened while making the mold. The casts are subtley asymmetric, but the pattern is not. Going to have to redo the mold.

Control point base and thingies - second half poured, tested. The 'thingies' cast perfectly the first time (go figure!), but the base floated during the second half pour, so that part of the mold is ruined. I can probably just turn that part into a single piece mold.

Pylons - not started. After looking at these things, I considered trying single piece molds.

Gauss turrets - not started.

Summoning core (small) - not started.

Summoning core (big) - not started. 1 set drilled out.

Gothic window strip - making casts.

Emitter tip - making casts, but only because I redid the mold. The earlier mold had suffered "shift" during the second pour.

Control point tower and floaty top - tower redone, making casts. Will make one-piece mold for floaty top.

Control point base and thingies - base redone as one-piece mold and making casts, 'thingies' suffered mold drift. Remade mold for thingies, which are now making casts.

Pylons - one-piece molds making casts.

Gauss turrets - too small to be practical. Will consider making 1.5 size (3.4x volume) and double size (8x volume) versions and printing those at a future time.

Summoning core (small) - not started. Probably won't do these.

Summoning core (big) - 2 smaller pieces making casts. Largest piece not started. Learned that a 1mm drill placement hole is too small for practical casts. Recommend making drill placement holes 2mm in diameter, 2mm in depth.

O-man,

On small things like the Gauss turrets and such, do you think there is anyway to cast them as a single, larger piece?  Put them on some type of base to see if they cast up that way.  Just a thought.

That's a great idea.

It also makes me think that I need to do a mock-up of a 6mm power armor infantry figure for scale purposes while designing stuff.

The holes in the summoning core pieces aren't great, but they are good guide holes for pinning.

I did the first pour for the remaining piece of summoning core last night. This was possible because Bella has become bored with my worktable activities. The computer is in there, and she would much rather prefer to play Nick Jr. video games than mess with my silicon.

And yes, I never do anything hazardous while she's present.

How about this? Too many holes in the base?

Eh, I didn't like the holes.

Which is better, with or without the central crystal? How can this be improved.

Keep in mind this is meant to be a smaller piece of terrain, only 12mm tall.

Mmmmm, yummy looking!  :wow: I like it.  I think the crystal looks better.  My initial thought is cast it without the crystal so that infantry stands could be placed on it, but it seems pretty small to begin with so don't worry about it.  Anyone who doesn't like it in the center can clip it off, so might as well keep it there.

I think the crystal is needed to balance the model. when you take it out the center seems a bit bland so even if you leave it out, I think you should maybe do something to extend the spires more to the center.

Thanks, guys.

The extension to the crystal seems like a good idea.

I think I will change the base prongs to 4 instead of 3.

As you may have noted, it's inteded to be a 1-piece mold for easier casting.
