I'll grind you into the dust! There must be 16 players of Epic in London surely? Then again would they pay to play in a GW store?

Well, I'm interested that's for sure. Could potentially even do a weekday - though I don't suppose most others would be able to

I'd be interested, but like others would need to know a lot more.

On timing - Britcon is in August, and there are further competitions each month up to November. Many people will be cautious about giving up two weekends in a month to wargaming no matter how fanatical they are  Also, a one day event is preferable to keep the travelling costs down to an acceptable level, but that does result in a long day - but if Tiny-tim brings his missus shopping, he is facing a very early start and late finish if you adopt the usual UK timings. (I think we agree you need three games to get a reasonable result (possibly more if you want to get 'newbies' interested), each of around 2.5 - 3.0 hours long. With breaks that is 8.5 hours minimum.)

On a more practical note, have you / the GW manager considered the practicalities of space in the shop, which is likely to be limited if you also have GW customers involved as well as 16 burly competitors? It will also mean that it is likely to turn into more of a demo than a true competition

On format, if you want it to be truely "blind", then I would agree that Siegers could be troublesome - best to limit the format to the known three (Marines, IG and Orks). However, 1500 points will automatically restrict titans to the smallest ones. I am less concerned about having two SCs though, and if both people bring spaceships, then they are played as a single activation with a single ship (ie one person loses an activation). If using the more usual paired entries approach, then the Space and Titan restriction could possibly be applied to the 3000 point combined total - to the total value of both armies must be 1000 points or less - though it could all be provided by a single player.

Either way, I would suggest that we use the usual alternate turn mechanisms, the players on a side deciding which formation is to be activated.

Another option, where table space is limited is to play the French scenario called Epic Minigeddon!

Here briefly are the main features

Table size: 120cm*60 or 80cm - you can fit two games on a single 6*4 table
Points 1000
Goals: same as tourny scenario except two objectives instead of 3

Other features include
Army restrictions: No airborn fomations or Space Craft, no fomations > 400 points
No teleportation allowed

Those restrictions may seem a little odd, but apparently have been found to be neccessary.

Obviously, the games are quick too.

-----------------------------------

I think you could probably play it up to 2000 points and perhaps remove some of the army restrictions

It's only been suggested because this shop has 2 floors.

Lower floor: Shop space.
Upper floor: Gaming room.

The lower floor normally has 3 'intro' tables and 1 6x4 gaming table.
The upper floor normally has 3 6x4 gaming tables, but I reckon it could push to 4 tables given some extra thought.

The manager ain't keen on doing it on a weekend.

Perhaps people interested in prizes.  :p

The prize has gone up to £100+ of Epic miniatures at minimum, I haven't seen the prize lot yet but it's apparently 7 boxes and ~8 blisters of Epic, no idea what army!

Depending on what's in the boxes there could be £200 of prize minis up for grabs...

Which GW store is it?

I'd be up for popping down, assuming it doesn't clash with any work commitments, the GW store is fairly centrally accessible, and i have sufficient notice to the book the day off. In some ways a weekday is better than the weekend. However, it would have to be on the basis of random partner drawing or something, or me finding someone willing to carry me through the games!

I could make a week day and a doubles tournament would be quite interesting.

The tournament would have to start at 10am at the earliest and finish at 6.30pm at the latest for me to be able to make it.

If its a week day I wouldn't really be that bothered if this ran quite close to britcon or the GW tourni.

GW Wood Green, 150 metres from the Wood Green Tube Station (Picadilly line).

It's looking like that'll be the most likely day available.

That's the spirit!  :))

I have a photo of two Terminator formations that would disagree!  :;):
