ill wait up to hear from more people who are actually gonna show up at GD baltimore, but im not looking at spending the day playing epic, like i said before, i am playing other games as well. im also planning on chilling with friends who i only get to see at this event, checking out the golden demon stuff extensivly and geberally just relaxing. i wouldnt mind a one off game with someone, but spending a large chunk of the day doing just epic doesnt appeal to me. as much as i love epic, i play 40k, fantasy, blood bowl, inquisitor and necromunda as well.

i think my main bone of contentation here is why does it have to be a tourney, cant we have a few guys just meet up and play a game or 2? thats more of what i had in mind. if some people brought terrain down we could snag up a free gaming table and go for it. i just dont see why it has to go the full tourney route.

Dave Taylor and I exchanged another round of emails and he agrees that the time constraints of Gmaes Day will limit our options.  So I made this suggestion:

What I was thinking is just reducing it to two rounds of play, 2 1/2 hours each.
11:00am - 1:30pm Round I
2:30pm - 5:00pm Round II

It might work out better and give people more of a chance to look around at stuff.  Everything else would remain the same.  There is a greater chance for a tie, but given the short amount of time available to us (not even a full day really) it seems to be the only viable solution.  This should make folks like StudderingDave happier, give people a chance to make their submissions elsewhere for Gold Daemon and such.  Also, they need to know who won by 5:30pm so this would fit that bill.

No official word on the prizes.

The list is not out there yet and even if it was I wouldn't have an issue with people bringing a more updated version.  So if you are being super OCD over it, hurry up!  Otherwise, no worries. :D

Hena, I updated the document to show version 1.3.2 and it will even link to it if you have the same link (except for changing it to 1.3.2 of course).

Everyone else, here is what will be officially posted on GW's site.

Epic: Armageddon is the 6mm of version of Warhammer 40,000 where companies of Leman Russ tanks advance on hordes of Orks.  Forces of Craftworlds battle with Chapters of Space Marines as Titans clash and aircraft are torn from the sky.

Games Day: Baltimore is hosting a Swiss-style Epic: Armageddon Tournament, with two rounds of play for each player to maximize his/her Epic playing time.  The Grand Tournament Scenario designed by Jervis Johnson will be used to determine the winner of each game.

Tournament Game Times:
Table Prep Time / Check In ? Starting at 1000 hours
Round I ? 1100 to 1330 hours
Lunch Break ? 1330 to 1430 hours
Round II ? 1430 to 1700 hours

The winner of the tournament will be determined by the highest number of victory conditions met for both games.  If the cumulative victory conditions tie, then use the cumulative victory conditions met for both games, minus the total number of victory conditions met by each person?s opposing players.  If there still remains a tie, then the tying players are all declared the winner.

Note: Games that are won using Tie Breaker rules will count as 1-0 victory conditions met for the purposes above.

There will also be a competition for ?Best Looking Army?.  Your tournament army will be automatically entered into this competition and all players will vote by secret ballot to determine a winner.

Cost:
Free with a Games Day admission ticket.

Who Can Play?
Up to 12 players.  Please sign up as early as possible as slots will be available on a first come-first served basis.

What to Bring?
Up to a 3,000 point army for the Epic: Armageddon rules set with the following limitations:
 All models must be Epic scale Games Workshop Models, GW conversions, or scratch-builts.
 Counts-as models will be allowed but please make every effort to minimize their presence to avoid confusion.
 All models must be fully constructed and/or based.
 The same army must be played for both games in the tournament.

Armies are encouraged to be painted but this is not a requirement.  Bring two legible copies of your army list with you to the tournament.

All Official Epic Army Lists from the Specialist Games website will be allowed along with the following:

 Scions of Iron 1.3.2
 Death Korps of Krieg
 Minervan Armored Legion (Epic: Raiders)
 Eldar (Ulthwe? 3.2)
 Eldar (Iyanden 3.2)
 Eldar (Saim-Hann 6.1)
 Eldar (Alaitoc 2.1)
 Dark Eldar (Epic: Raiders)
 OGBM v1.6
 Necron (Epic: Raiders)
 Tau 4.4.2
 Tyranids 8.4

Other lists can be approved on a case-by-case basis prior to registration (Squats, Inquisition, etc), so feel free to contact me with any suggested lists.  Be prepared to meet any opponent!

Registration
Register by email only.  Contact William Sturtevant here with the following information:
1. Your full name
2. Contact Information (return email address and phone number if available)
3. Type of Army List you will be bringing (Orks, Eldar, Necron, etc.)
You will get a response within 24 hours confirming your registration.  If you do not, please resend your information.  Registration will be accepted up to two days prior to the event (June 12th).

Game Details
The Grand Tournament Scenario will be as described in section 6 of the Epic: Armageddon book.  Rules will be as described in the E:A book, Swordwind book, and the posted FAQ?s and Updates on Specialist-Games.  Games will be a maximum of 2.5 hours long, including any set-up and warm-up time.  If the game is not concluded at the end of 2.5 hours, the game is stopped at the end of the current activation and Tie Breaker rules will be applied.   Both players turn in their scorecards at the end.

Table Defaults
Unless both players agree otherwise during the 10-minute warm-up, the following will be the defaults for the table.  Terrain will remain where it is unless both players agree to move, remove, or add terrain.
? Play will go short-ways across the table.
? Sides and opponents will be randomly chosen (no grudge matches allowed)
? Pre-measuring is allowed.
? ?They Shall Not Pass? is not achieved if a single unit of an unbroken enemy formation is on your side of the table.
? ?Summoning Avatars? takes place during the ?teleportation phase?, prior to strategy rolls.
? Units are struck by template weapons if any part of the model is under the template.
? The 2008 Epic: Armageddon rules updates plus Core Rules will be the governing rules
? Rulings from Moderators on the Specialist Games forum will be considered official (well, official enough).

Miscellaneous Details
? If you have terrain, feel free to bring it.  Just remember to mark it in some way as yours.  A piece of tape with your name on the bottom, a purple dot, whatever you think will distinguish it.  This is to avoid any confusion at the end of the night during clean-up.
? Remember to bring objective markers, dice, order counters, blast markers, and blast templates.
? Remember to bring $10 for the ?entrance fee?.  This is to compensate the good people at CT Gaming Club for their space (and tables).
? I am not familiar with the area at all, so lunch/dinner is ?fend for yourself?.
? You may want to bring a camera to immortalize your victories / defeats.

Any questions or comments can be directed to me, William Sturtevant, at moscovian@hotmail.com.

There will be links on where to download those lists.  I know 2 games might not be much of a tournament but it is supposed to be fun, there will be a lot to do there, and this will be a good opportunity for everyone to meet and hang out.  I compromised on the game time length in an attempt to satisfy everyone and keep in the schedule Dave Taylor gave me.

Prizes have been removed because Dave isn't sure what he can get for us.  I am not too worried and I think most of us would be happy just playing.  With that said, I suggested either some sort of credit from SG or FW, or perhaps some OOP models as a prize (Capitol Imperialis, FW terrain, etc).

Corey confirmed that he'll show for the tourney.  I'll try to reach out to some of the folks who have been absent lately (Ilushia, Toadchild) who are local.  Anyone who is coming is more than welcome to 'register' early by emailing me.

Lastly, Dave told me Tuesday that Jervis will be there at Baltimore and being that Epic was his baby you can bet he'll stop by.

Looks good to me.

An alternative way to spread out the players and make a clear winner more obvious would be to include things like sportsmanship, army design, painting and so on as part of the score to judge overall winner. After all, if you have 12 players, then 6 will win the first round and assuming these six play each other then 3 will win those - you've got a 3-way tie.

Suggestions:
1) Make a website with this info with links to all of the lists being used.
2) If you want us to pay $10, then put that as the entrace fee. Right now you're saying it's free but costs $10. If it's optional, then put the entrace fee as $10 (optional) but that seems silly.

Well the info has been sent to GW and should be up by the end of next week.

The tournament is not free, but free with an admission ticket.  The $10 was left in there by mistake ad I'll have it removed.  Dave wanted to make sure that Epic folks weren't paying for something that wasn't being run by GW and that's fine by me.  I personally wouldn't mind everyone pitching in $10 and having it go toward a prize, but I think money is probably tight for a lot of people right now so unless we have some unanimous decision from all players the day of the game, I'd like to keep it inexpensive.

Dave did mention that there might be a trophy in order.  It's one of those heavy see-though types and I thought it would be a nice touch.  I don't think we'll find out about the prizes for some time but as I mentioned to DT we're happy just to be included in some capacity.  Trophies and prizes will "foster good relations" with the Epic community, but I think I am representative of this community when I say we just want to be treated like a customer again.  So  far, so good.

I am really looking forward to playing against you guys. :D

is it just me or did the epic event at Baltimore Games Day slide into the oblivion that is the new web page...which to be honest seems like nothing but a storefront webshop... quote from the GW search engine
