Was wondering what distance your group is using on how close the enemy forces can setup.
When I play I often use something like 80-100. with a setup area of around 20 cm deep. (depending on how big the table is)

Today an ordinary stand can travel from a rhino 45+15=60 cm in one turn. When we have used a short distance the game has more or less been over in 2 rounds which I personally think is abit short.

Any comments to this?

/Pete

80cm pretty much always.  That's what the rules say too :)

Sometimes we have games over in 2 turns, but it is pretty rare....most go 3+.  Tyranid games usually go at least 4.

We use 20 cm set up area also, which is fine since the table we usually use is 4'x6'. Although, one time we played on a table that was only 3.5'x6'. My Squats' slow speed didn't matter as much and they got into range a lot more quickly than normal.

Our games usually last at least three turns.

Usually 80cm as well, on a 120cm table.

Back in the day, when I was a lad (etc etc)... we started as far away as possible.  Slow units without transports (eg. guardian, IG tactical, dreadnoughts & even short ranged superheavies) were very marginalised, rarely advancing anywhere near objectives, and only engaged the odd enemy that really stretched themselves in your direction.  We tried not to pick any slow troops.  Also it just adds a turn or 2 of moving forward without much action.

To slow a game down try:
play more cautiously (smaller point armies help a lot here- more space to hide before you strike), but beware of attrition!
play less mobile armies occasionally (you don't have to have a space marine pile-up in the 1st turn; IG and Chaos don't encourage this)

or try adding house rules:
limit charge reach when moving into combat to 1&1/2 moves rather than full double move (slow infantry struggle though)
try a suppression system out to reduce firepower
reduce firing ranges/ add -1 to hit at over half range

I've been experimenting but not found a nice balance yet (and annoyed my opponent a bit with each new change).  Of course these changes unbalance the points values as well, and take longer to play the whole game.

Another thing is that when using a bigger than 80cm setup you very rarely see a titan close combat and even with 80 cm its really rare for me.

My table is 1m25x1m80 so i use a 22.5 cm setup line.
80cm is perfect i thing. More = fire power army supremacy, less = close combat supremacy.

Ha! I'm sure we use the same brand of insulation board :)
