Yep, FW models are only good proxys for something else, instead of Main List could have proper stats for them, this is one of Great Downfalls of epic.

There are some good reasons behind that.

1) Originally, the whole development process was set up under the assumption that SG was creating new minis and the entire line would be available from SG.  If the SG lines are stocked in stores, then obtaining minis from FW is a hassle.  They didn't want people to have to feel obligated to go to the trouble just to have a competitive army.

In other words, FW models weren't allowed by Jervis.

2) After SG was clearly headed to mail order anyway, jervis relented and said we could consider FW models, which is why some of the variant lists started including them.  We approached FW.  We attempted to find out what was going on so we could plan game development around available minis and were turned away rather rudely.  I can only assume that it's because they didn't want to give away their pending releases before they could make official announcements.

In the case of developing the Black Legion list, we asked explicitly about the Hellblade and were told explicitly that FW was not going to make the Hellblade so we didn't include it in the list, only to have it appear a few months later.

Basically, there has never been both permission and means of incorporating FW models in Epic.  Ever.

EDIT: Neals variant list?

I think he's referring to the OGBM and Blood Axe Ork lists.

If you don't want to playtest, then don't.  Ignore the fan lists and experimental rules and stick with the official versions.  It's that simple.

So as always - DWWFY ! It would be "foolish", not to use good models because you can't come up with rules or use them as proxies ... :)

Honestly, FW say that the only way to contact them is to call, and then we cant do that. Are they really that busy, or have they just taken the phone off the hook and cant be bothered? The more I deal with this company, the less I like them.

Well, it is now 9:45pm in the UK. FW have been closed for 3 hours and 45 minutes. So, I thought that I would try another call, as an experiment. Guess what? FW phone lines are engaged!

So, either they are working into the hours and still on the phone, or they have simply switched their phone to 'always engaged'. Great way to treat customers!

That sounds very annoying, C/S.  You may just have order them online ... and hope for the best ...

Hope it would. In Finland there just is not anybody who plays with core (official?) rules only. Even tournaments are not free from experimental/fan/change of day -lists. And some of "official" lists are quite dubious (Siege Masters?). Ah, it was great when all we had was Big Book.

About FW models...

So it seems that FW sucks as much as SG and GW does. Now can we stop revenging them their crappiness and start using their minis when all development is in "our hands" and they actually make new epic models and SG/GW does not? Or should we make chapter for them in our Big Book Of Grudges and never forget? We have SG range and we have FW range, I say use them both to their fullest!

Ha, just the other day I was thinking that I'll probably reduce the amount of exp rules for RopeCon games if others don't mind :). I guess that makes you more happy.

Ha! I would like that. Hassling with constantly changing bits is annoying.

Everytime I e-order from F/W, I hold my breath hoping I get what I ordered, no parts missing/damaged, etc. ... As living in the USA adds another layer of difficulty... :(

That is strange.  When I phone after hours I get to the recorded message saying when the lines are open.

Thgouh I have come to the conclusion that they only have one phone.  There is no other reason that explains why it is always engaged.

Yes, I am also sure that they only have a single phone.

Anyway, I finally managed to get through to them today (panicking as I forgot why I was phoning in the first place and didnt expect them to answer!). I will be picking up a couple of packs of Epic Ork Fightas for my growing Ork horde at Salute in a couple of months.  :D
