I actually have a large collection of Forge World, due to me playing Aeronautica Imperialis before I played Epic. Thus, I already have Epic scale Eldar flyers. All of them, actually. I just need to get the '3rd' planes for Nightwings and Phoenix Bombers now (darn pack only having 2!).

Anyways, here's the promised updates! I didn't get to them as fast as I hoped, but they were still done before my first game. Tomorrow I'll get to play with this, plus the rest of my force which is built and on my desk.

Here's the Aspect Warhosts (minus transports - they are next!).

6 Dire Avenger Stands with Exarch Stand

6 Fire Dragon Stands with Exarch Stand

2 stands each of Howling Banshees and Dark Reapers

I must admit - Banshees are the easiest to paint so far. Ink does wonders for them, and with a little floor wax, Bleached Bone always comes through wonderfully.

The DR stands posed the oddest choices for me. I didn't know what colours to do them, so I choose the standard purple from days of yore. I threw in some yellow to tie them in a little, plus it's complementary to purple! Yay art class.

The Fire Dragons and Dire Avengers turned out the way I wanted them almost to the letter. The only thing I wish I had done is base them myself - the sand isn't uniform. Whoever based them (think I know who) used different sand on each blister I think. Thank goodness most of them are done with the GW uniform sand, as that is what I have. I think the splash colour of white (DA) and Bleached (FD) loin cloths helps break up the uniform colour enough so it doesn't look bland.

What do you guys think so far? One thing I am concerned about is the bases. They are inspired by my Iyanden 40k army, which includes snow paste (PVA glue + GW snow). I think paste would be too much for these though, as it would be half their height when it dried! But I don't really know if non-paste snow would look good either. Anyone put GW snow on their epic bases before?

Next up - I treat myself. Cobra Super Heavy x2. These could be done later tonight - depends if the World of Warcraft bug bites me again . . .

And here's the Cobras!

The one on the left is missing one of the back fins (think I dropped it in my living room - I'll hunt for it tomorrow). And the fins are on backwards! But that's what I get for second hand minis. I may fix them, but they are on there solidly atm, and if you've ever built an Eldar Super Heavy, you know once those are on you don't want to fiddle with them (the Cobra I built has been re-glued 3 times, and it's been two weeks since I got it).

Tomorrow I figure I'll work on the Revenants. I still need a second scenic base though, so that'll be my main goal tomorrow, after my first game with them. Maybe I can scrounge a spare tank or something off my opponent.

Looking good.  For snow bases on Epic I have used a small amount of Hekki glittersnow and mixed scull white paint in with the PVA when gluing it on.  It ended up looking alright.

Had my first game, and learned a few things!

First, my plan of the Fire Dragons with Banshees worked to the letter - I totally mauled a Leman Russ Tank Company, killed 7! models in one Engage action.

Second, Cobras are freakin short ranged and not invincible. They lasted all of one turn, after messing up a Guard infantry unit (30cm seems a lot further in my mind . . .)

Guardian Formations rock. Wraithguard rock. A single Guardian Formation took out 2 Baneblades and broke the 3rd for the rest of the game.

Scouts rocked me!

So, this changes my painting a bit. I'm going to play around with the list a bit, but I've bumped my War Walkers and another Guardian Formation up the line, they will be done next, along with my Gate. Same with my Vampire whenever it comes in ( 2 month delay on Forge World atm . . . yay).

Tonight I plan on relaxing, and my gf visits tomorrow, so painting will resume on Monday. I plan to have the War Walkers done, and the Guardians base coated at the least. Same with the 6 Wraithguard stands for them, and a Webway Gate.

Have a good weekend!

-J

Very few units in the entire game scare your enemy like a Cobra! I have found that they really need to be deployed behind cover and keep their heads down until you can move a unit or two closer to distract the enemy. The trick to getting the most out of them is to use their skimmer ability to the maximum potential, then they become fearsome.

Yep all skimmers on our table work like Choppers. Hide behind cover - Pop-UP - Fire - go back down under cover ... very effective ! :alien:

So! It took me a week to get this done. Well actually, it took me 10 minutes. But I have been sooo busy the last week, I haven't been able to update!

Here's the War Walkers. I want to try out scouts next game, to try and lock down my opponent. I think I may add some rangers too, as I've got a bunch of them, and they have a better armour save. Granted, these guys may actually kill stuff, where the rangers will have a harder time.

Next? I'm not sure what. I'm thinking the 3 Falcons with Firestorms. I've got them based, and they are already base coated too. Just needs some highlighting, and cleaning up. After that, likely the Wraithguard I half started.

Hopefully within the next day or so I'll have some more Falcons!
