Greetings Wombat Fans! ?

Time yet again for another exciting edition of "PlushWombat's How to Add Needless Special Rules to the Titan Weapons List" ?:laugh:

this week:

Getting More Bang for Your (insert currency type) Out of Plasma Weapons:

All things considered, I like the current versions of the plasma cannon and plasma destructor. ?

That being said, if there are going to be changes in how they function, I like ?the idea of limiting the number mounted on a titan to a maximum of two.

This seems to feel right to me, given the fact (fluffwise)that they are fueled off of the titan's plasma reactor.

(Now for the Needless Complexity) ?:p

Given the slow firing nature of plasma weapons, and making the assumption that the AdMech designed them this way on purpose so as not to cause a major power loss at the wrong time during combat (gotta hate when that happens); one can assume it would be possible...though not advisable... to disable the safety protocols on the weapons to allow them to fire more often.

Please understand, this would not be something that any sane Princeps (but hey! this is me we are talking about here?) would do under normal circumstances....but there are times...when one must roll the dice and throw caution to the wind if victory is to be achieved!

Sooooo.....I propose the following needlessly complex rule suggestion ?:confuse:

Plasma cannons and plasma destructors mounted on Warlords (they have a large enough reactor to take the strain) would be able to fire their plasma weapons on two consecutive turns under the following conditions:

Condition 1: On the second turn the Warlord may not move (all excess power is being routed to the plasma weapons)

Condition 2: All Plasma weapons must fire on the second turn regardless if they have a target.

Condition 3: ?Roll on the following table to see the effects. ?Roll for each plasma weapon attempting to fire in this manner.

Roll (D6)

1-3 result: ?Weapon fires normally...may not fire on the next turn (that would be truly silly!)

4 result: Weapon Misfire...weapon does not fire...may not fire on the next turn.

5 result: Weapon explodes: ?Firing unit recieves 1 DC and 1 Blast Marker...needless to say...it can't be used for the remainder of the game.

6 result: Weapon explodes: Firing unit recieves 1 DC and 1 Blast Marker...AND... may take no further actions for the current turn (its reactor just went down)...and is treated as having no void shield for the remaider of the turn.

At the start of the next turn..assuming titan is still operational...it may move and fire all weapons except plasma weapons normally...and ?its void sheild return to their pre-explosion level.

So there you have it! ?:)

Waste of time....probably!
Needlessly Complex...most likely!
Adding a touch of flufflyness to plasma weapons...you betcha!!!

Prehaps just have the Titan make an armour save (as if hit by a macro weapon so it just gets the one) if it tries to fire it on the off turn?

Failure causes a point of damage? Roll a D6 and on a 6 a critical occurs? (to represent the plasma generator overloading or something).

I very rarely pack plasma weapons on my Titans, because of their slow ROF ... Now if the AdMech could get them to the level of the 20cm Power Guns on the M2s in Hammer's Rgt.  Well now, you are talking firepower !  :D  But I ramble on "uneededly" ... :D    Again ... :blush:

20 cm Powerguns...bah! Only soft rear-eschelon type girly men use those! ? ???

Real men...and Wombats!!! Use Plasma!!! ?:p

Now if the ADmech would find the STC for a Bolo Hellbore cannon...then we would be talking!!!

As an aside...I have actually met David Drake and he signed my copy of Hammer's Slammer's!!! :;):

Now an IG Regt armed with 2 cm powerguns...now that would be cool!

Well in that case, I'll tell the Major to forget about it ! Plus having met and getting your copy signed by The Man, gives you a lot of field cred !! The closest I get is e-talking with John Treadaway, who co-authored the Drake approved Slammers Wargame Rules/Handbooks. And I just finished his new story, "The Darkness", in Vol.III of all the Hammer stories.  Pretty good !  The thing I'm hoping for (and all the old timers here know this !) is Old Crow releases their Drake approved M2s, M9s, M53s etc. in 6mm.  GZG already has 6mm skimmer mounted grunts that would work too.  I've even got 6mm Slammer decals made in hopes of that event.  I'm hoping to have the Slammers take on my Epic forces ... :D

I like this idea, yes it's an extra level of complexity but characterful, like the good ole days of exploding orky weaponry, great as a fun house rule.
