I'm just curious why the Scions couldn't be incorporated into one Marine list? Why couldn't the basic marine list get all the new troop types and add-ons? It may be what the marine list needs...????

Because lists are defined as much by what they do not have as by what they do.

Jervis EA design principle no 37.

(Which doesn't apply to the Tau it seems... :;):)

In practice it is a constant challenge to keep, with people constantly wanting to add special tricks to existing lists (eg aspect troupes to eldar). Kind of a thin edge of the wedge thing, to allow it in just a few cases opens to the gates to more of the same - ie a few comprehensive general lists (like Netepic) as opposed to many individual, tightly focused, and highly themed lists (which was always Jervis's intention for EA).

I would like to see basic marine(& ork) list to be split even more and compulsory formations brought in like with ig, eldar and chaos. Current list allows awfully ugly nonfluffy armies when you min-max a bit.
