Primarch mentioned the titans 'holding the door' to the throne room, dont suppose theres a pic of that is there? ?

I've never seen one (but would love to if there is one).  Its well descibed though in "Inquisitor" (titled "Draco" in second release).

They are positioned next to the "Column of Glory"-a column half a kilometer high made from the armour suits of White Scar and Imperial Fist Marines that died defending the Palace during the Battle for Terra.  The bodies of the heroic fallen remain inside...

"Two immense Titans, embodiments of the Machine-God, flanked the great archway that led onward, serving as columns, one blood-red, one purple.  High over the archway, in obsidian, the wide double-headed eagle of the Imperium was mounted.  The giant carapace's of these giant fighting robots sustained golden mosaic roofing in which were buried the heavy macro-cannons and multilaunchers of the Titans, just as their great cleated feet were locked underfloor.  Purity seals and devout banners dangled everywhere.

By each side of the archway sagged a powerfist which could seize and crush to liquid any unpermitted interloper.  The other jointed arm of each Titan terminated in a massive point defence laser.

Inside the jutting armoured head of each Titan, rostas of warrior adepts from the Collegia Titanica had roosted on honour guard during thousands of years.  During those thousands of years those two Titans had stood as columns, immobile, statuesque, awing all who approached.  Yet in ultimate emergency their plasma generators could presumably power up rapidly from standby mode.  Enemrgy could flow through hydroplastics coupled to actuators.  The electrically motivated fibre bundles that serevd as muscles could tear their heaviest weapons free from the roof, bringing tonnes crashing down as a blockade.  The God-machines could wrench their feet free.  They could open fire devastatingly,  During overhauls throughout the millenia the appropriate maintenance litanies had been chanted faithfully."

I thought that was cool enough to type out for you.  Enjoy!

Isn't it just? I can just see it up there with the Emperor meets Horus one in 40k scale.

Reminds me of the awesoem Imperial Palace Gate diorama they have at GW HQ in Nottingham- the MASSIVE one with the big gates, 2 Titans etc etc and all the hite scars sallying forth on their bikes...kewl  :p

Of course it would be more impressive in Epic scale...soembody once worked out that in epic scale the gates to the Imperial place woudl be 30ft high  :o

I saw the pics on that, but never saw in real life. Again another good display of great modelling.

Who was that? 30ft high? That seems rather large considering the size of the titans, Imperators included....

Dont rightly recall....but they are different gates, not the ones guarded by Titans (sorry for the confusion).  Part of the "half a kilometer high"  crap

hmmm... which gates are we talking about?

Its not the gates represented by GW on one of the gamesdays with the White scars etc and the titan. Its not the one described in Draco, so which gates are left?

>> Remember it takes the Imperium hundreds of years to implement changes in equipment, therefore we can expect Space Marine chapters (and the new chapters such as the Grey Knights) using pre-Hersey equipment - and they may not upgrade their equipment immediately.

I still have a problem with it.  I don't mind most successor chapter having older gear, but I do have a problem that the super-special Grey Knights would have older gear.

I understand that older models would have stayed in production for quite some time, but it sticks in my craw.

You also have to remember two points:

Firstly, the Imperium is actually in a state of decline. Technology is lost every day, and cannot be replaced. Designs and blueprints dont exist and so in many cases the older stuff is more reliable and efficient, with repairs being reduced to sacred oils and a quick chant and a kick.

Secondly, the older suits have an almost religious attachment. An old dread suit with a long line of heroes who 'lived' in it would represent a seriously sacred artifact. Who better to look after such a relic than the ultimate Marine chapter?

Thats actually a good point.

In stories regarding machinery, that has been emphasised a lot especially with more older equipment which is cherished more.

..That bit of Draco is my favourite.. gotta say- the Emperors palace/Earth stuff is really well thought out- Jaq and his team's trek really shows off the gothic darkness that the 40k universe is reknowned for- its worth reading it for that section.. even if you don't bother with the other couple of books...

Hi!

I am sure the Adeptus Custodes must be genetically modified.

In the Horus Heresy game they had the best stats, the Blood Angels legion had something like Attack 10, Defence 9 whilst if I remember rightly the Custodes were Attack 14, Defence 14. Which when combined with the Emperor who doubled all attack and defence stats was kinda lethal.

I remember that as well. The rational I gave it was their fanatical loyalty in defending the Emperor. Something they would not have in any other situtation but in the unique circumstances of the siege of the palace.

In the original release entitled "inquisitor" there was a black and white drawing of the "scene" described.

Alas, I now longer have the original one, but if someone does a scan for "old times sake" would be greatly appreciated.

If I am not mistake, the gates in question are the "last barrier" to enter the actual throne room where the golden throne and the master of mankind resides. The Heresy rebels did not make it this far. They got inside the "inner palace" but not the final throne room.

The gate most mention was the "lion's gate" where Sanguinus defeated a Bloodthirster in single combat. But this would be the outer wall barrier before the inner palace area.

I think the Emperor's palace is too huge to convey all the topographical information easily!  :)

I beleive its the "second" region the Imperium is "stagnant". It is no mistake that the period after the fall of the roman empire and the rennaisance is called the "Dark Ages" in western civilization and it was also the period where the "church" held absolute power over religious and secular. If not for cultures like the Islamic one during that time many of our most priceless works of antiquity like the greek writings, math/ alegebra and medicine they would have been lost to western culture due to the extreme religious constraints on science.

The Imperium suffers the same handicap. Technology is less understood than it is worshipped. An old suit of space marine armor, while inferior to later armors is deemed "sacred" or "holy" because of its history and those who wear it, even if it isn't as efficient.

Thats why most chapters have a whole host of real old stuff that they bestow upon their most experienced veterans.

The Adeptus Mechanicus is more of a collector of ancient relics for worship than a "research group". In fact if not for the Squats and contact with aliens like the Eldar or tau the little technological advances they may experience may not even exist.

With all the time that has passed, if humanity ever cast of the religious overtones and had a true research effort driven by the scientific method, everyone else in the galaxy would be toast.

Good analogy Primarch, that's sounds feasible and "historically" accurate ... so to speak !
