I read about this long time ago. Still unsure on the exact 'monster'.
At first I hoped it would be Lovecraft inspired, but alas...

There's been oodles and oodles of stuff on this film all over the internet for the last 4-5 months, but having seen the new trailer I'm still not overly impressed. It might be an entertaining film, but something about this trailer doesn't make me champ at the bit to see it.
I also think that JJ Abrams is quite over-rated. Okay, I think that his MI:III was under-rated (although hardly a classic), but what else has he done? Alias? Didn't bother with it. Lost? Great first episode, then it completely went off the rails in a morass of nonsense like polar bears and smoke monsters; all the time further undermined by the fact that the writers clearly have no idea whatsoever where they're going with it, and are blatantly making it up as they're going along (I swear they're using some rpg-style D100 system to choose what happens next).
Anyway, now I've finished my mini rant against JJ Abrams, I think that's the problem with this film - I just think there's a lot of hype over whatever he does, and I'm just not a great fan. Nothing against him, I'm sure he's a decent bloke in real life!

I don't know, the idea of a Godzilla-type monster movie done verite style ala Blair Witch really intrests me... it's certainly something different in an industry filled with endless franchise iterations and copycat productions.
