Hi - a very quick and probably rather naive question...
How many blast marked would you imagine needing in a 3000 pt game? I'm planning on buying some from Litko and don't want to under/over spend.
Thanks in advance for helping a new player out.

That depends on the armies you intend using I guess.
I imagine 30-40 is about the most you'd need at any one time.
I like using bigger BM's to represent 5, and smaller ones to represent 1.

I did the same thing with the Litko markers. I bought three packs - two of the varied sizes and one of the all small ones. I have never run out even when playing 5000 point games.
WARNING! Don't use superglue to glue the litko plastic markers together. The glue will etch the plastic. Use tacky glue or gorilla glue or a small amount of greenstuff.
FYI Litko also puts out little skull markers that are perfect for assaults - use them to designate kills and it speeds up the assault play,.

Add up the number of models in your army (count WEs as the number of models equal to their starting DC) and divide by two. That ought to give you a good estimate of how many you'll need.
I made BMs out of smaller poker chips, with 1BP stickers on one side and 5BP on the other. You won't run out if you do the divide by two method and this.

Orks need easily 40.
My theory is that you need half of your maxium number of units, so orks: 40 for 2 Big warband, 16 for blitzes, 16 for Kult and 10 for "others" = 82 units so -> 41 blastmarkers. Marines could need 1 for every unit?
I have 100 blastmarkers so I can lend mine to my opponent too.
EDIT: Dave was faster...

I have about 30 small ones and 6 large ones to use for 5 BMs. I've not come close to running out, even up to 4000 points.

I actually go 1, 5, 10 (small, medium, large). There is one really large BM in the variety pack and the medium ones (I think there are 3 per pack?) I use for 5's. There will be occasions with Orks and IG where those 10's will come in handy.

I've been looking at ordering fifteen of the medium-sized Litko ones and then mounting them on Clix bases, with custom labels I'll make myself. That way if a formation could have as many blast markers on it as there are clicks on the dial -- maybe 25 or so. If I have more than fifteen formations in a battle, I'll just get more. Luckily, I have a pile of clicky bases from pieces I pulled off to use for Dirtside.
