Development on Tau seems to be pretty quiet.

Given that Tau has been in development for several years, to me that indicates that possibly the list is basically ok. Or that there is schism over issues that are probably quite subjective rather than objective in terms of game balance and game play.

So where are things at? Issues? Reasons? Wanting to see a range of opinions.

I'm looking for a list to go in the handbook in my Sig in two months, so if anything is to be changed, now is the time.

Same as ever for me, Fire Warriors & the proliferation of non-canon vehicles.

Plus there have been a few new types of vehicles released.

Are Remora Drone Fighters slow enough to be Skimmers? :)

Personally I think the list is pretty much ready - I know a lot of others are of this view soon. At the moment I'm lobbying for Tau to be allowed for the next Open War tournament.

I don't think any of the concerns over FWs or armored core formations have been hammered out.  The pause in development is probably due to a combination of a lack of playtesting over the summer and everyone feeling like the discussion has been done to death.  Quite simply there are people (myself included) who will never agree unless some new evidence (a la playtesting) shows information to the contrary of *fill in your position here*.

I think that it is a combination of several factors.

Generally, the list is very close to ready, in my opinion. However, there are a couple of issues which need to be resolved. Also, there are a couple of recent changes which require further feedback.

In addition, there is a divide over the 'new comers' and 'old timers', the former feeling that the list is best split into sublists and the later opposed to this. I am opposed to this.

With regards to the new units, I currently cant see a reason to include them in the force list. I dont think that they necessarily add anything at the EA level (Remora and Tigershark 2-2).

Personally, the real issue leading to a hold up is the lack of playtest reports. The Tau list has always been a niche list, with few players due to the cost. However, with its current state close to complete (in my opinion) it is important to get battle reports and first hand opinions. In that case, any tournaments which allow the list would really help.

I am still very keen on moving the list onwards, and I do think that it is important that a 'final version' is released shortly. I am getting to the stage where I feel that it would be better to release an 'imperfect' final version, rather than wait for even less enthusiasm about the game. I am also feeling let down by SG.  :(

They have a speed of 1 to 6 (compared to 0 to 3 for the impeiral VTOL craft).

So they could be skimmers.

The question is do we want to include every new creation or leave them for a seperate list?  One that is more reliant on drones than bluies to fight.

I guess vehicles like the Remora are the newest developemends of the Tau. The Epic list represents a 3rd Sphere Expansion Force but i guess the Remora would be put in service after the insights gained during this conflicts.
So all thenew vehicles xould be included in an After 3rd Sphere Expansion Force or a supposed 4th Sphere Expansion Force.

Well, these new itesm wont make it into the core list. There is scope to make them Section 6 entries, since at least they actually have models.

Well, I'll be busting out my Epic Tau in two weeks, and I'll be playing against the Eldar.  I'll see what I can report.

Regular tourney goers in the UK tournament have talked about the use of Tau recently too. Whilst the thought of making the Tau list legal makes some people shudder, there is a growing recognition that more playtesting is required.

One idea that came up was having a tourney specifically allowing lists that, though not recognised on the usual tourney scene, were at least nearing completion. The proviso for this was that players would probably need to have two armies: one ?legal?, one experimental. (The reasoning being that it?s easier to make a comparison on how effective an experimental list is if it faces an enemy whose list is known (a benchmark list).

Personally, I?m keener than ever now to get my Tau built, painted and on the table. This is in part due to my slowly improving in being able to use my Orks (it?s only taken three years or so), but also in having already painted some Barracudas and Tigersharks for use in AI. Sky-rays will probably be next and then I?ll have to start looking at making an army list out of what I?ve got.

As for battle reports; getting my army in to a usable state will take a while, but I?ll certainly try once it?s done.

I really like this idea, and I look forward to any battle reports that you can provide... and any feedback from any source would be great.

Well from my point of view I've pretty much had enough of trying to sway anyone on these forums with any ideas I might have. I may put up results from playtests when I get some games in, but for now I'm done with contributing to rules and unit ideas. Bashing my head against a wall is no fun. :(

Really? OK, I will get to this, then. Good to see someone is following. Thanks.
