I'm ?just wondering... do people read conversion guides?
I look for ideas and when I see one, I tend to just use the pictures as reference, but sometimes I do read the guides (such as the one with the working lights in a Land Raider. Very nice read).
I've been sculpting / converting nids and I've been writing conversions guide. I'm doing it because its almost acts like a diary for my own use. But sometimes I wonder why I bother as taking photos of each stage is a pain, especially when I don't have a decent light studio to take good pictures.
I've got a few guides on my site and I'm wondering what people think of the guides. Anyone actually read them?
I've read some awful articles with "I did this and then that" etc and its a bad read. I try to avoid that, but sometimes quite hard to do.
So just wondering about the style of writing I guess. If people who have bothered to read it find it boring and quit after the first paragraph, or do people enjoy it?

I used to read them just to build up a knowledge base for modeling. Once I reached a certain point I started skimming them, just looking for new techniques or concepts.

Heh - usually no, as I prefer to come up with my own ideas. But I love to see pics of conversions.

I'll read them and then take the bits that I like for my own conversions.

I really like reading these sorts of things as it tends to give me new ideas and techniques to use in my own projects. I think it is a really good way of learning and I have found techniques that have allowed me to greatly increase the rate that I can produce minis at as well as the quality and many ideas I have had from someone elses conversions and guides have allowed me to come up with some really neat and original things.

I view conversion guides in the same way as battle reports. I wont actually do the same thing myself, but they are interesting reading, particularly the thoughts behind the writer.
