Hmm, yes there are some rather badly worded bits in the Tyranid book regarding "Command" and "Synapse" that should be cleared up. ?I think the 3 types of units in the Special Rules section should be Synapse, Independant and Instinctive; not Command, Independant, Instinctive. ?Synapse should be properly and fully defined and obviously does not = Command contrary to what is implied in this section. ?
However, for the discussion with your friend the dodgy Tyranid player (

) it is clear that some units have the special ability Command (Dom, Hive Queen, Hive Tyrant), but not all Synapse creatures do. ? This reflects how things were in SM2 so it would seem to be clearly deliberate. ?However, I suspect that the author of the NE5 book made an assumption that Synapse also = Independant. ?This isn't the case in the Special Rules section, and wasn't the case in SM2. ?However, it doesn't make any sense for Harridans and Tyranid Warriors to have lost Independant, so this is obviously an errata that needs to be cleaned up.
yes, i think so too. we should describe the command and synapse clearer to make sure that it is not the automatically the same.
furthermore if you look at the unit statistics of the tyranid warrior you can not find the ability "independed" but if you look at the describtion of the tyranid warrior you can...so this word is missing in the describtion of the harridan, too...especially for our dodgy tyranid player
