That would help things as the save scale would be 1 - 10 rather than 1 - 6. Of course, if we also included armor value in place of saving throw and penetration in place of save modifier things would be entirely different...  :;):

Back to Hammer Head. One thing I definetely am trying concerns the movement of Skimmers.

Idea: Skimmers can move either like ground-based vehicles (they will have their own column in the movement cost table) OR they may fly higher, in which case they are treated like helicopters at NOE altitude.

The player must state which movement mode he's using and can't change modes during a turn. The only difference to helicopters when movin this way is that the skimmers may be targeted with non-AA weapons, but with a -1 die modifier. AA weapons may target Skimmers without penalty, when in this movement mode.

Hi!

I think they function best as VTOL's, otherwise you need to invent a whole new category for them. I think they should be very vunerable to AA fire, since Helicopters normally are.

Yes, we see "skimmers" in Epic, similar to helicopters too. ?And AA weapons will always get a "bonus" shooting at skimmers or flyers/aircraft, as that is what they are designed to do. ?When a model makes a "pop-up" attack, (like an AH-64 popping up from behind trees to take a quick shot!), an AA weapon that can take a shot could do it without penalty ... ?that's the way we do it ... ?:;):

I don't mind a new category; otherwise we'll see Falcons and Superheavies flying happily at Cruise altitude, which I don't want to happen. :laugh:

They are as vulnerable to AA fire as Helicopters and _in addition_ are vulnereble to non-AA weapons as well (Non-AA weapons may shoot at them when in NOE, but with a -1 modifier), which should make the players a bit more careful about flying.

You could perhaps "divide" the VTOL category. One for skimmers capable of a certain degree of above ground flight and true VTOL's that fly high. It may be easier ruleswise than a whole new category.

Well, we have to cover their ground movement anyway, so I think a new category is in order. Besides, only AA weapons can hit aircraft and helicopters. If the Eldar flying tanks can only be hit by AA it spells disaster for game balance.

We play it as that anything on "FF" orders may use "snap-fire" to shoot at a vehicle that "pops up" and fires. The "Pop-up" gets first shot and only one model on FF may shoot at it with no +1 for FF, as usual.  However AA weapons do get the +1  ...
