Floaters:

- Can be landed, normal, or High altitude.
- Can only contest objectives if landed.
- Can not be pinned
- "Shoot the thin part"
- 180 Degree fire arc (unless otherwise noted)
- "Drop Things"
- May be targetted by any unit, regardless of orders.
- Units targetting them at High get a -25cm penalty to their range.
- Usual stuff about close combat and jump troops.

Flyers:

- Can be landed (if a transport), normal, or High altitude.
- Can only contest objectives if landed.
- Can not be pinned
- Flyers must move a minimum of half their maximum move each turn unless landed. ?This movement must be in a straight line and must be in the direction the aircraft is pointing. ?They may make a single turn of up to 180 degrees at both the start and finish of their movement.
- Follow new order structure (First Fire = if flying, land and disembark/embark troops, if landed shoot as a normal unit: ?Advance = if flying, must make minimum half move and shoot in advance, if landed take off and make a minimum half move and shoot in the Advance phase: ?Charge = must make minimum half move and dogfight)
- "Shoot the thin part"
- 180 Degree fire Arc
- May be targetted with the following restrictions (in addition to Snap Fire penalty if used). ?
Infantry/Cavalry/Walkers/Knights/Light Artillery/Titans: Shoot at Flyers if on First Fire at -1 to hit.
Vehicles/Floaters/Praetorians: Shoot at Flyers if on First Fire orders at -1 to hit and only with Turret weapons or weapons with 360 degree arc.

- Units targetting them at High get a -25cm penalty to their range.
- Usual stuff about close combat and jump troops.

- The following specific units may only target a flyer/floater if landed:

Vibrocannon, Tremor Cannon, Mole Mortar, Wave Serpent, Distortion Cannon, Gut Busta Ball Round, Trygon.

AA - Units with AA do not suffer the -1 vs. Flyers AND may SNAP FIRE without penalty. If not shooting at Floater/Flyer/Skimmer/Praetorian/Titan get -2 to hit thingy. (but DO suffer the -25cm for High...gravity applies to them too!)

Thanks zap.  Good to see it all in one spot finally.  Don't forget the restriction that Heavy Artillery cannot fire at flyers at all (too slow and unwieldy).

I'm assuming that Flyers still have the requisite movement restrictions.

Also, are we resticting the fire arcs on flyers to the standard 180 degrees to the front?  Floaters are fine with 360 but I think that flyers should have their arcs restricted.

Hi!

Looks good to me. It is strange how the rules bounce back and force amongst the versions as the years go by. These amendments make the rules similar to those in the original versions of netepic.

I guess its time to go back to our roots.... :;):

Yup, Heavy Arty deliberately left out of the list as discussed. ?This list is probably fairly close to the original TL rules....but if anything a bit more flyer friendly.

180 arc on Flyers is ok, but kinda meaningless if they retain the 1 turn at start and 1 turn at end of movement. ?We did contemplate restricting them to only a turn at the start of their movement. ?I like this (stops a Raven screaming across the board and pivitting around to get the rear arc shot on a Titan), but I don't want to hammer Flyers too hard either. ?(also noted that we probably need to include the movement restrictions in this list....I'll edit).  Thoughts?

Hi!

I would mind the turns at start and finish and getting rear shots. Thats supposed to be an advantage. If you don't have an AA umbrella of fighters you should get it in the rear... :;):

Yup, decent point, and I think these changes will bring Flyers back down to a reasonable parity with similarly costed units.  Should this go to a poll on the mailing list?

Never needed to bother with the older rules, but these do look much better.

Might be obvious, but a few units to exclude from firing at flyer/floaters: Vibrocannon, Mole Mortars, Titan Distortion Cannon, Gargant ball firing thingy. ie. vibration, unground and rolling weapons.  It'll save annoying questions later.

Exept when the flyer/floater has landed. Then they should be legitimate targets. I forget, do the rules already mention this?

They aren't mentioned- it wasn't relavent as they couldn't fire on Aircraft/floaters.  Unless I missed something.

Good ones Loofnick - I added the Wave Serpent and Trygon too....I'm sure there are others, but this should give a hint that common sense should prevail :).

Hi!

Sure. Although the low participation of late may not generate much of a response.

But post the poll, who knows we may get lucky.  :)

Could you confirm that the 360? arc of fire ability is removed from the default core rule floater profil ?

This would mean with the new rules that floaters could not snap fire at flyers as they do not have the AA ability and no turret or 360? weapons (unless noted in their profil as in the squat overlord ) ?

Yup, both the "all-round firing" and "all-round armour" for floaters were left out deliberately.  General rule is of course over-rided by specific unit rules like the Overlord.

I should add the "Drop Things" rule back though....mistake.  Will edit the first post accordingly.
