We're nearing the end of the IG review list now and next up is Bombards.

There's not much I can offer here as I haven't used them so I leave it to you guys to voice your thoughts and opinions.

Given the rarity of the vehicle in the 40k fluff however, I would say that allowing them in companies wouldn't be the best idea.  Batteries would be better in my opinion.

I definitely think they should be allowed in companies. But even then I don't think they will be used. I think that they need something to bring them on par.

Ignore cover = death for infantry.

They are pretty damn good already IMO.

I think a 60 cm range would help them compete with Manticores and Basilisks.

Other than that, they're fine.

EDIT : And they would be nice in companies, too.

QUOTE
People perceive the range as problem as it cannot reach the other deployment zone.

It is a problem.

I've had Manticores and Basilisks shooting at me directly across the length of the table after a failed activation. ?:O ?No way you can hope to do such a thing with a Bombard.

If we consider Ignore Cover and Disrupt to be on par (IC being better at killing stuff in cover but Disrupt being more generally useful), why is there a 105 cm difference in range (210 cm on indirect fire !) between the Bombard and the Manticore ? All for the same price... Somebody please explain, because I really have no idea how this came to be.

I fielded Bombards once and their range was a problem for the whole game. I could never reach the formations I needed to reach. The Bombard is already a specialist unit, less generally useful than the Manticore. Why add the handicap of a reduced range ?

Last argument : when was the last time you saw Bombards in an IG army? None of the lists I've seen here in recent batreps include Bombards.

ifind them fine as they are.... they are short ranged weapons... iv found a detachement lurking in range of an objective makes people unsure of parking on them too early...

If i look at the stats in IA5 then the Bomnbard should have the same range as the Basilisk. Thats 120cm and indirectly 240cm.

I agree, sure a points change would be needed, but right now Epic's Bombards do not tally with Bombards in the rest of 40k (Or earlier editions of Epic for that matter).

G'day,

I have used bombards in nearly every game i've used IG. Whilst range is on occasion a problem, I find them especially usefull at removing garrisons and units on the forward objectives towards the end of the game. Its rare i haven't been able to find a target for them within 90cm. Sure they can't always hit the depth targets but thats why i have the arty company.

If its a problem with fluff, then i would agree to a small range increase but only a small one. But at present i don't feel they are a problem.

Against infantry that depends on cover, Orks, IG, Cultists, the Bombards rock. I had Bombards break a relatively fresh LatD Coven once, they stayed put and were annihilated by a follow-up Disrupt barrage from Manticores.

That was nasty...

Range 60cm.
45cm is just too short. In SM/TL, there was not so much difference between Basilisk and Bombard ranges.

In modern 40k, they've the same range as a Basilisk too.

It's only E:A that's downgraded Bombards so much.

60cm range would be OK with me. 45 is very bad if they fail their initiative test.
