I think Hena has it spot on... people are wanting Hammerheads to be the mainstay, so they've been 'pimped up' enough that now they can be... the problem is, according to the background, Fire Warrior infantry is supposed to be the mainstay.

Thus, the armylist might work very well as a balanced list... but it isn't quite representative of the Tau...

OK.

I support the idea of a maximum of one auxiliary formation for each Fire Warrior cadre in a force. However, while this will go some way, it doesnt address the underlying issue of why people would need to be forced to take the Fire Warriors.

I have no intention of changing the the core Cadres. While I acknowledge the calls from people and the various background support for this, it is one area where I believe that we need the variety. To create a single unit (which is also expensive) which all players are forced to take would restrict the way in which the force plays, throw the balance in other areas, decrease the number of EA Tau players and make pretty much all lists looking the same. I am unwilling to do this.

In addition to the restriction on auxiliaries, I also feel that the Human formation is simply too large, and agree with the downsizing already mentioned or something similar. Human auxiliaries will not be removed.

I think that Fire Warriors are good the way that they are, and the more that I think about it the more I think that the problem is in other areas - particularly with the general feeling the the Tau list is 'not too weak'.  :D

What do you think about dropping the cost of Devilfish for Fire Warriors by 50 points?

Pathfinders get them for free!

My Tau-playing mate reckons he'll only consider Fire Warriors if their Devilfish upgrade price is dropped by 50pts.

At some point he'll sign up here himself. :)

Yeah he's adding human aux to his army now, after deciding that the Fire Warriors he's bought are now going to be Pathfinders.

Edit: Of course, I didn't type frightful... I typed $hit. :)

Edit2: I rarely do battle reports, as I find that the game changes from two hours to four hours. :D

I completely agree with you there.

Firewarriors should be good enough that people want to take them in such numbers that they make up the core of most armies.  This should be done in such a way that doesn't rule out the all-battle-suit-army-of-doom™, auxilla-R-us or the AMHC as possible army styles, just less viable/more specialised styles.
