Wow, this is awesome.
last night I just just decided to do a Salamanders army for Epic!

Played my first game, the guy I played against at my club, recently got a HUGE amout of Epic cheap, so is looking to sell some SMs, so I thought why not.

These rules you guys have been working on aside, how would you theme a list to be Salamandery?
No Assault Marines, Land Speeders, focus on short range weapons where available.
Any other tips?

Cheers guys.

In essence a lack of fast attack options and a fair number of devestators and tacticals, prob with added armour to bulk them out. Don't worry about avoiding long ranged stuff - marines don't have much!

Check out the army list floating about in a post somewhere with the thoughts behind the chapter, would give you some ideas for theming.

Course you could just use these rules, I am currently working on a pretty list to stick up, just tracking down some salamander pics for it.

Oh and if you like painting and converting fancy doing some of the models we haven't got round to yet? :)

The current list is

Not done
Supreme Commander
Salamander Devastator
Razorback ? AP
Razorback ? AT
Predator Incinerator
Land Raider Crusader
Land Raider Helios
Land Raider Prometheus
Strike Cruiser
Battle Barge

Part painted
Dreadnought - Ranged
Razorback (3rd ed)
Vindicator (3rd ed)

Done
Captain - BL Captain + Tactical (fully outkitted metal models with multi melta) / TRC Captain + Tactical (boring old model)
Chaplain - BL Chaplain + Assault / TRC Chaplain + Assault
Librarian - BL Librarian + Devastator / TRC Librarian + Terminator
Scouts - BL (with heavy Bolters)
Assault - BL / TRC
Devastator - BL / TRC
Tactical - BL / TRC
Salamander Tactical - BL
Salamander Terminators - BL (Assault Terminators) / TRC / GW
Bike - GW
Attack Bike - GW
Land Speeder - GW
Dreadnought - Assault - BL
Dreadnaught - Multi Melta - BL
Rhino - BL / TRC / GW
Predator Annihilator - BL / TRC
Predator Destructor - BL / TRC
Hunter - BL / TRC
Whirlwind - BL / TRC
Land Raider - TRC / GW
Drop Pod - GW
Thunderhawk - TRC
Landing Craft - GW

(I've been photoshopping Bans Imperial fists and it is more trouble than its worth - almost easier just to paint them :) Just seeing if its worth sticking them in the the standard 5 man config or go with 4/6 man photshopped units.)

I'd like to help with the painting, but the only Epic mini's I currently own are Eldar flyers (I'm an AI player).

But I should have some soon. Snot green is the Salamander colour, right?

I like the ideas your put at the start, will try to use those, with my opponents permission

Yes Snot Green :D
I basecoat them black, drybrush with DarnAngels Green, drybrush wit Snot Green and then drybrush with Scorpion Green.
Details (shoulderpad interior, backpack, bolters) with Chaos Black and Boltgun Metal (bolters).  Golden Yellow for tactical markings and reserve company shoulderpads.
Flames with Sunburst Yellow and Fiery Orange.

That reminds me we should have a short painting guide in there as well! One for armour, one for infantry, dibs armour!

Heres the list I was woking on which I think covers everything you mentioned.

Oh I've forgotten - whats the salamander battlecry?

"Into the fires of battle - unto the anvil of war" i suppose?

List looks good but the colors are a bit too bright i guess and i would prefere one green and one yellow color :)

Give me some time and i will come up with something.

I think the big blocks of black are out - it would cost me a fortune to print!

Big blocks of black?

So this green is black if you print it in b/w?

Comes out grey on my black and white printer - your list formatting with the large areas of black takes a fair bit more (though is fine when printing in the office!).

And you didn't like the 'flame' effect then? :)

Hm i didn't use large areas of black??? Only black text at the beginning but nothing else.

The flame effect while a cool idea looks a bit akward. I prefere a two or three colored list :)

Questions and comments:

The green is okay in a grey scale.  Not great, but acceptable to my old eyes.  The yellow could stand to be lightened up just a bit to redcue the contrast in color.

Why include all the LR variants?  I was under the impression the only variant the Salamanders were really known for was the Prometheus.  I don't see the point of a single Helios.

Termies technically can't use drop pods in the rulebook SM list.  You'll need to include a note that they can.

I like the fast attack stuff being both limited and in the titan/air allocation.

What does "1+" mean in the Salamander Devastator upgrade?  Does that mean you can add more than one Dev upgrade to a single formation?

There are no unit stats.  I assume the intended stats the same as in previous versions of the list, i.e. Meltas replace MLs for the Salamander infantry and Heavy Flamers replace assault cannons for the Termies?

There are potentially huge formations in this list, e.g. 8 Tacs + 8 Razorbacks.  Has anyone tried armies with these yet?

LR: The idea was that Salamanders are known for their artificer skills. So they would field more vehicle variants than other not so technical adept chapters. So we included the Helios and the Crusader. The Prometheus has no limit so hopefully this willshow up their increased availability inthe Salamanders chapter.

Termis: ok. It was included because in Codex: Space Marines Terminators can use DropPods. I would like to see this included in the rulebook list too.

Devastators: it mean that at least one Salamanders Devastator Detachment has totake the upgrade. This represents the Devastators from a battle company. If you field a second detachment, then you don't have to use the upgrade and can represent a detachment from the reserve company.

Units stats will be added. Yes the "Salamander" specific units will be the same as in previous armylists.

I have fielded the bigger formations twice now. The beefed up Tactical Detachment has nice staying power. The Devastators too. But it cuts down on activations which is intended. The Multi-meltas are nice but they really don't add too much firepower (shorter range) or for assaults (worse to hit number).
