Well, I took pretty much no notes and the camera ran out of juice before the game was done, but here goes anyway.

Squats:
Warrior Brotherhood
Guild Bikers
Ironbreaker Robot company
Iron Eagle Gyrocopter company
2 Goliaths
Overlord
1 Cyclops
1 Colossus
Forward Observer
Fundamentalist

Tyranids:
Dominatrix
2 Hive Queens
Tyranid Warriors
Heirophant - Ripper Tenticles, Bile Launcher, Frag Spines
2 Razorfex detachments
2 Trygons
2 Dactalis, 2 Exocrine detachments
Genestealers, Hormagaunts, Gargoyles, Lictors
Termagants in Mycetic Spores

Setup on a 6' x 4' (ish) table. ?Belt of abandoned buildings and ruins ran across the table on the left, with a small Ork village and patch of alien forest on the right.
Tyranid picked the side.

Turn 1

Initiative to the Squats. ?Tyranid forces made a charge across the board with virtually everything. ?Only their ranged fire teams advanced. ?Tyranid warriors entered the Ork village, and Exocrines and Dactalis lead by a Hive Queen covered the Reactor.

On the left bikers raced ahead to capture the objective in the factory ahead of the slower berserkers, while the Robots surrounded the other objective in the nearby building. ?Gyrocopters supported them as the Squats nervously watched the Heirophant and Razorfexes charging toward them.

On the right the main force of Guild Bikers raced across the board toward the Ork village with the support of both praetorians.

In the shooting phase the Collosus and Cyclops opened up with salvos of 3 missiles each trying to thin out the Exocrines and Dactalis but few of the hardy bio-tanks died. ?The Hellfury cannon shot sailed harmlessly past the Dominatrix, but the battlecannon finally took their toll, killing 3 Tyranid tanks. ?The Thunderers showed their mettle by cutting down 4 of the charging Hormagaunts, and the Overlord chipped in by taking out one of the Trygons. ?The Goliaths both failed to do any damage despite the call of the Forward Observer. ?Return fire from the Tyranid side saw 3 of the bikers gunned down. ? ?

Turn 2

Initiative Tyranids

The Tyranid charge continued on the Left flank, with the Heirophant catching the bike detachment there, and disgorging Genestealers to assist and to try and engage the Gyrocopters. ?They rightly refused combat and instead wheeled away behind the Titan. ?A Trygon raced past the defending Squats but only managed to kill some Genestealers!

The Razorfex had a sudden burst of inspiration and were able to move forward and still prepare to fire. ?The Dominatrix crossed the ruins to bring her weapons to bear on the Cyclops.

In the centre, the Bikers rushed the Bio-tanks guarding the reactor in an attempt to wrest it from the Tyranids' control. ?Meanwhile the Trikes raced behind the Razorfex on that flank to bring their multi-meltas into play.

The advancing Squat Brotherhood was suprised to see Tyranid spores descending rapidly on their position. ?The Thunderers opened up destroying 3 of the spores, but one unlucky group of Squats were smashed flat. ?The Termagants emerged and engaged a number of warriors and the Forward Observers Rhino.

The Tyranids had a significant amount of first fire this turn, and a major target was the Cyclops. ?The Dominatrix opened the precedings, stripping 3 shields. ?The Cyclops returned fire, but the Dominatrix saved the Hellfury and Battlecannon shots. ?However, the remaining 3 Deathstorm missiles scoured the Ork Village clean of Tyranid Warriors. ?One group of Dactalis fired their barrage into the melee in front of the reactor, killing 2 bikes. ?Exocrines cleaned off the remaining Cyclops shields, and before they were vapourised by the Colossus, the second detachment managed a number of hits on the unprotected preatorian. ?In the end a Melta-Cannon was destroyed and the hull seriously weakened before the Tyranid fire petered out. ?The Goliaths again failed to do any damage.

Close combat was bloody. ?In the centre, the Squat bikes managed to only kill one Dactalis before being wiped out, leaving the Reactor in bug hands. ?On the left the fight was not totally one sided with the bikes giving about as good as they got from the Genestealers. ?In the Squat backline the Termagants managed to kill 2 Squat stands but lost 3 of their own number.

In the advance fire stage the Squats pumped fire into the Tyranid titan. ?The three Gyrocopters that got around behind it dodged shots from the Razorfex and opened fire, successfully damaging the Titans leg. ?The Overlord managed a staggering 5 hits, but the titans heavy chitin saved all but one. ?The second detachment of Gyrocopters, Robots and the Guildmaster also let fly, but despite the hammering the Heirophant only sustained 4 wounds in total. ?On the far right the Trikes hit two of the Razorfex but one managed to save even the blast of a multi-melta.

In the end phase, the Titan regenerated all its wounds, one Razorfex stood up, and the Cyclops got back 3 shields.

Turn 3

Initiative Squats

The Squat Trikes seized the opportunity to race in and capture the objective in the Ork Village. ?On the left the Gargoyles and sole Hormagaunt rushed into the factory engaging the Berserkers. ?The Heirophant caught up to the Gyrocopters that had hit it from behind the previous turn, while the remaining Genestealers and Razorfex engaged the remnants of the bikes. ?In the centre, the Cyclops reversed trying to put some distance between it and its' tormentors, while the Colossus put itself betwen its' partner and the Dominatrix.

The Colossus opened the firing, successfuly wiping out the remnants of the Exocrines and dropping the Hive Queen before they could attack the Cyclops, but again failing to damage the Dactalis guarding the reactor. ?The Dominatrix vented her anger by firing at the Colossus but the fire was largely astray. ?The Dactalis tried to hit the Trikes unsuccessfully. ?The first Goliath finally managed a decent barrage (I rolled a 5 at last), but still managed to miss the charmed Dactalis ( I then rolled snake eyes!). ?The Squats managed to clean up the last of the Termagants, but the Berserkers missed all their shots on the Charging Gargoyles. ?The Overlord destroyed the second Trygon.

The Heirophant tore apart 2 Gyrocopters, and the Bikes were savaged, but one hardy pair fought off the Genestealers assaulting them. ?

In the Factory the Berserkers lived up to their name and tenaciously hung on to the objective (OzT nearly cleared it out with Acid Blood, but was just out of range).

The desultory Advance fire saw a Razorfex knocked down on either flank and another Gyrocopted was sniped by a Hive Queen.

The capture of the 5th objective was just enough to put the Squats over the victory threashold.

Hi!

Cool!

I think the tyranid players mistake was not to go after the praetorians early one. taking out even one of them means lots of VP's and severe firepower restriction.

The spore deployment was good, but I think I would have done it on turn one for a greater disruption effect and giving the rest of the army more time to close with less squats firing at them.

Yay, a victory for the Brotherhood!  :D Thanks for the BatRep, Zap. I've noticed that Squats vs Tyranids tend to be bloody games.

@Primarch, stop giving the Tyranids pointers... Squats are an endangered species don't you know.  :D

Does look like the Squaties bit back before getting munched on..

Nice battle report, love some of scenery, will have to make similar myself.  Especially the cup terrain that looks like a nice one to do.

This BatRep reminds me that my Squats need to exact revenge on my nephew's Tyranids.    We're due for a rematch.

I made the big mistake of not going for the praetorians with my titan.  :(

I will be glad when I finish my next lot of infantry and will swap out some stuff for more infantry in spores and perhaps Haruspexes and malefactors.

Razorfexes are too slow

Hi!

I usually use spore pods with hormagants to pin down heavy weapons troops, so as to permit my shock troops (hive warriors or genestealers) to close range.

Your bio-titan needs to identify the largest most VP rich target and go after it!!!

I was pretty sure I was going to be facing Tyranids, but I didn't want to take an army especially tooled up to fight bugs.  I just wanted to try the Cyclops and Colossus together :).  The one concession I did make was the Fundmentalist.

OzT's big bug was on the other side of the city after deployment, and it would have had to have run a pretty scary gauntlet to cross over and chase my praetorians.  Having said that I have been singularly unsuccessful in dropping a Heirophant to date so it may well have been worth the risk....under the NetEpic rules Squats are a bit (well, ok, a lot) stuffed when it comes to fighting bug titans (and any other Titan geared for close combat).
