Talking to the manager at my local store they are still selling enough LOTR to make it worthwhile.

As steve says running Mordheim in the fantasy tournaments is how WHW said specialist games will be supported from now on. How the Epic tournament got GT status and its own listing in the schedule I don't know, but well done to one and all who mailed them!

My enthusiasm is begining to wain. Don't get me wrong I think epic is one of the best mini games I've played. Its just with the continuing spiral down I wonder if I may be better looking at other rule sets were the makers are interested in supporting it?

For people like me, playing NetEpic for years, it's not a problem anymore. When a game is supported by a group and not by GW, you enter in a completely different mindset.

I'll look elsewhere after I have exhausted epic - I suspect yet more WWII 6mm!

What difference will it really make? We already write the rules, convert the models and have more unofficial major tornaments than official ones. I love the game and will carry on playing it.  (and to be honest I'm still hopeful that things will sort themselves out)

Couldn't agree more, Kotrin. My enthusiasm for Epic is, fortunately, independent of GW's support or rather lack of support given the current state of things. If the mold didn't already exist, we probably would never have seen the re-release of Chaos infantry. If GW doesn't want my money, I can find plenty of other places to spend it.

Personally I'm quite positive at the moment- Matt Otter and the 1st Co. Vets are putting on tournaments and I have several local opponents.

Also there is a decent size forum based community which has shown it can produce rules and a range of model suppliers (I'm lookiing ar DRM Industrial Infantry for L&D atm).

My main frustrations at the moment are the fact that the Chaos lists are not official yet - though I know Neal, PG and others have basically done all they can.But more crucially that the Rules Review appears to have stalled - the other members of the ERC seem as much in the dark as us and Greg has disappeared.

I would love to see somebody - probably Neal Hunt as the most active member of the ERc and the one with the broadest expertise,  to take control and say to SG this is the rules review and the finished Chaos lists take it or leave it, and then regardless of SG set an aggressive schedule of armylist finalisation, add members to the ERC and any necessary ACs - eldar variants, marine variants, and even the Tau to an extent,  can be completed rapidly after the rules review with longer deadlines for Chaos variants and others

I believe NH and Cybershadow have hinted at plans in the past and I think if SG/Greg don't produce something soon, and perhaps anyway, then it is needed now

The thing that saddens me is that GW refuses to capitalize on all the work done previously, by re-releasing older models rather than spending scant capital on new ones.  It would give some life back to Epic.  The Chaos models, for instance, don't need much updating.  Tyranids either.

There are also economies of scale that could be taken advantage of that aren't.  Chaos vehicles are simply Marine vehicles with spikes, so why not just make sprues of spikey bits?  Then modelers could convert vehicles to their hearts' delight.

Well ... I think we're pretty much on our own ... DRM, E/W makes new models all the time, GZG has a huge line. Many of the crew here are involved in writing the rules.  We really don't need G/W-S/G to play 6mm Sci-fi Wargames ... I know we can play some real good games with all the stuff, we have, now ... :D

I don't remember what I've posted previously, so forgive me if this is repetitive.  In response to the Chaos list questions above...
===

Andy contacted me about finishing the chaos lists.  Greg has had some significant personal issues crop up.

Unfortunately, both Audrey and Zac use Mac-specific software and I don't.  I've had to coordinate with them so they could do the edits.  If nothing else blows up in my life*, there should be finished, official lists in Andy's hand in ~2 days.

* last 3 weeks include car repairs, plumbing repairs, HVAC repairs, ~25 pages of academic papers due, 2 presentations, and a major project at work

I'm skeptical. Why Mordheim, and not, say, Necromunda? The same reasoning can apply.

Agreed. ?I wouldn't be surprised if it was a choice between Mordheim and Necromunda.

I suppose the upside to Necro would be that it might benefit from synergies with the WH40k online game.

The downside is that vehicles provide a fundamental complication for the scale (and, perhaps as well, the WH40k market may be already stronger because people move from buying infantry to buying vehicles).

I think that choice is entirely down to marketing products which they are currently producing and about to release - e.g.:

"Want a Mordheim Skaven warband?  Then buy the WFB Skaven Night Runners regiment box set!"

"Want buildings to fit your Mordheim skirmishes over?  Then look no further than our forthcoming range of Fantasy Buildings for Warhammer!"

:glare:

I suppose you can do the same for 40k e.g. market the CoD buildings for Necro terrain - but that was last year's product, and they've got to market the new one...  :glare:

In any case, it all comes down to GW not wanting to detract from sales of the big Two.

I agree, Mordheim is being pushed to the veterans as the next campaign in my local store with the caveat that everyone must supply one building to take part.

Blatant sales pitch, but if I choose to play in GW stores I have to expect this.

Won't be joining in myself as I let all my cardboard buildings go and I'm not interested in buying buildings for fantasy.
