Well, I had glibbly suggested to the community that a little healthy competition might prove to be a good motivator. For anyone who wishes to follow along with me I'd love the company.
For those who don't know me, I am a terribly average painter and have been in this hobby for less than three years. In that time I've managed to collect more Epic than I could ever hope to play with. However, I have a lot of big Epic projects that I have committed to finishing.
After moving from Northern New Jersey to Allentown, Pennsylvania, I realized one of my biggest challenges was going to be getting back into the swing of things. Everything was in boxes and totes. Lots of stuff broke along the way despite my best efforts, and the house we bought (an old 1885 Colonial) has a lot of its own projects.
So this past weekend I managed to unpack the Epic armies and put them on the shelves...

The workbench. Holy smokes I have a lot of work to do before I can even lift a model. Still there are deadlines to be met.
If you haven't read already, I am part of a new supplement project to get the Dark Eldar, Necrons, and Tallarns into a cohesive pdf that will be similar to Swordwind.
I have an entire IG army ready to be built (look at the shelf, top left) but I can't seem to get past the Necrons. They are completed save for my Aeonic Orb, Flayed Ones, and a few more Wraiths. Then I have the Dark Eldar, for whom I have only completed a single model (the Tormentor).
So which project should I work on first?

The competition: family. Many of you know this is a tough one to balance against. Work, wife, house projects, and KIDS. Nobody likes to think of their children in an adversarial way, but -unless they are teens- the likelihood is that the only contact your children are going to have with Epic is when they break something.
My three year old has been really good about this so far. In fact, she has been the only one doing any painting in my house. God in heaven help me!
Tomorrow I will hopefully be able to post some of my own progress. Anyone else is more than welcome to post along with me.

Don't worry, Bill, I'll be joining you. This should give me some incentive to make some real progress on the gazillion minis that I have that need painting.
BTW, I think you belittle your painting skills. From what I've seen, I would consider you more than "terribly average."

My sister-in-law brought over St. Patrick's Day pastries. It's a St. Patty's Day 'Hat' made from a cupcake on top of a cookie, filled with pudding and covered in green frosting.
It took two hours to scrape my daughter off the ceiling.

My post for the last two days....
Sadly I have done very little. An excursion to Walmart for new Exacto blades followed by some carving pieces of plastic.
My current work - an Aeonic Orb. Below you can see the current model. Before anyone says anything, it is NOT going to have all the zippy pink and blue colors. All that is being painted black with the green highlights to match the rest of the army.
To break it down, though, there are four sections to this Necron Harvester.
1. The top. It is the top half of the housing for the orb itself.
2. The orb. The Orb is a 1" crackle marble made from irradiated glass (or vaseline glass). When illuminated with a UV light, it glows bright green. The 'crackles' will give it the appearance of lightning over the surface.
3. The bottom half of the housing + top of base. This is not completed yet. It will include a bunch of spiky things coming off of it in all directions. These are the things I am carving as of late. Once they are done I'll be gluing and/or pinning them to the base.
4. Lower base. This will contain two ultra thin batteries that will power a very small UV light. The light will protrude through the base and illuminate the orb above. The lower base is made out of rubber so it can flex and be removed safely. I still haven't fixed this to a stand yet but it will eventually sit on a large flying stand.
This was started months ago but got dumped into storage with the rest of the Epic stuff. Now the Aenoic Orb emerges once again, its living metal slowly healing itself...
So this is where things sit. Anyone else making progress on their projects?
