Did everyone miss this?

Surely this has got to be of interest to more than just me.

I thought everyone would like to know that the IP issue has been resolved.

Kugelblitz, one of the people who has joined in the project, has known one of the GW VP's for many years, and he spoke to him about the project and we have been given the green light.  His reasons:  Small scale production, not for sale afterwards, not for profit, no GW parts being cast, private group, no harm, no foul.

Someone started a similar thread for this either yesterday or the day before, but for the life of me I can't find it.

In any case, this does have potential for epic needs. I must say I'm surprised that GW agreed to it.

I don't think Otter has the time or facilities to cast on this scale. ?

I was thinking of someone with access to a professional sculptor and casting facilities, not to name any names. ?

I wonder how much money would have to be invested to make this viable.

Looks like they had 29 people, $40US each, and that was more response than they expected. ?

Could you imagine having Pipboys necron stuff cast in a limited production run?!

Edit:
DS,
The link to that thread is at the top of the page.  It just never went anywhere, so I thought I'd cross post for a bit more exposure.

You  know, I saw the link, but I assumed it was the link to the original DakkaDakka thread. Oops!

If enough interest could be generated, we could contact said person and see if an arrangement could be made. ?

They may want to keep it completely seperated from their own endevours, so they didn't catch any heat.

I'm sure they contract their casting to someone. ?So maybe they could connect us with their people. ?In exchange they could either get a "finders" fee so to speak, or just a set of the models produced.

What I'd like to see are Necron Vehicles, Sisters of battle, and a generic close combat mutant/possessed/grotesque (or 2).

I can make Chaos and DE conversions, I'm not that confident in my ability to do Necron vehicles. ?I have Chaos androids and DRM Andys for infantry.

I can convert the SOB vehicles, but there's no way to do the infantry without countless hours of possibly futile work.

Edit:
Even if it was a one off incident, if our models are just a few ticks off GW, and use a different name, no IP problem.

I hate to pour cold water on this, but I dont necessarily see how it would work. You would need to be walking a very thin line.

I cant see GW giving any permission to create 'Necron vehicles' or 'Raveners', since this treads on their IP. So, this means that you would be creating 'space androids' generic enough not to be related to GW but close enough to proxy... so, like DRM are already doing.

These 'female Cadians' are really just generic female sci-fi marines... like Aliens, Starship Troopers, etc. I would doubt that GW will allow the use of the word Cadian, or the inclusion of the Imperial Eagle or anything else indentifiable.

Sorry, but I think that if you get more targetted than DRM, you will cross an IP line.

Silly CyberShadow, if you hate to pour cold water, then why do so?  :;):

But perhaps it would be most efficient to see where the lady Cadians go before we start down our own path.

After all, don't we have enough projects as it is?

Then again, Consectari does seem to be autonomous... my mind control powers over him are weak at the moment.

I think 3 generic structures could be made that, with the addition of a crystal (available at any craft store) and 1 or 2 bits of strip plastic, would fit the bill perfectly.

Also, GW doesn't own the IP on a generic armoured dominatrix.

As for the generic close combat guy, well, he's just that, generic.  Clawed/Razor hands, muscular bod, some armor, distorted face.  If properly made, he could stand in for 4 different, difficult to proxy models.

If one group can successfully accomplish this while openly stating that they are copying GW IP, there's no reason another group couldn't if they aren't actually making direct copies.

This would simply be a limited production, commisioned run of similar, but not identical models.

Of course if no one else is interested, I'm just whistling in the wind.

We just need some 6mm Heroic scale stuff made.  Sci-Fi female trooper...similar to but not a copy of Colonial Marine/Starship Trooper (movie version)/Gropos/BSG Colonial trooper.  Hard to show IP on an origianl sculpt 6(-8)mm infantry figure.  A 20mm x 20mm base covered in wriggly things.  Endo-skeleton type androids reasonably covered.  Also need sci-fi space mohican armed with a laser pistol and force axe.  No IP infringments...except maybe against J.F. Cooper.  :)

However, 6mm resin infantry is fragile and monsterously expensive.....so unless you can get someone with a foundry......
