Well, how many missile launchers, sergeants and so on do you have (I take it the mostly one pose is a normal chap with a bolter)? Enough for full squads - and what sort of squads are you after - Tac or Dev (hard to make anything else, veterin would be the same as tac)? If you have any spares of anything once I get my collection together I should have some spares if you are looking to build up a company (me, this is my first company).
The sort of detechments would influence basing for me as I'm going to try and do something special with 'em.
Originally my guys were on square bases (some 18 years ago now admitably) but I've never liked the look - a bit cramped. My regular chaps are mostly on strips, with some square based formations for easy battlefield spotting if two of the same formation types are in the same place.
Its taken me a while to get enough metal marines together again, so haven't started sorting them out yet. If I get rich quick I'll send the company to be pro painted. Bases wise though I was thinking using the maximum size possible (40mm by 40mm) and the alt poses to try and knock togther 20 little mini dioramas, with wrecked vehicles (got a few 1st ed hulks that will fit nicely), objectives, standing titan leg (love that 40k set if anyone remembers it), plasma explosions, drop pods, crashed aircraft, etc. I did something years ago with a reaver on its base and I guess I will try and improve on that. Also this way they will double as objective markers for maximum use!
To that end I'll probably try and swap excess missile lauchers, sergeants and certain poses for one i haven't got/got only a few of to aid posing them up.
Oh will also have a few plain strip formations for other companies if I have enough, the 'first squad' as it were of a formation.
