Not being able to find a model to use for converting, I decided to try my very first from scratch model.

So need some advice how I could go about doing this?

I only have green stuff unfortunately, so think I'm stuck with this.

I've heard of skeleton wires... but can this be done with epic?

Where do I start?

How long does green stuff actually take to harden?

I've never been able to use anything more than one central wire, and work around that. Any wire thin enough to make a skeleton inside a 6mm model would probably be too bendy to be much use as a support.

Green stuff: mix it and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes, and it is easier to work with (less sticky). It cures pretty much in 2 1/2 hours, but you can spped this up with a putty oven ( basically a coffee can with a low watt lightbulb fitted ) or simply by pointing a desk lamp at it.

What about using the plastic Space Marine commander model, the one with the cloak and sword/bolter? Might be easier than starting from scratch...

regards,
Reaver

You can use fine brass wire for a full armature. I have a *insert name of marine character with Beaky helmet, jump pack & two lightning claws here..* in 6mm I started ages ago with seperate wires for arms & legs. It allows for a more dynamic pose rather than one mass of putty.

Having said that, for a character like Mephiston there is probably no need - he's pretty much one block of cape & armour so no need to worry - just one central strut.

One trick to help along the way is to pre-mark the central strut with key points where you want head, shoulder's and hips to act as a scaling tool for the first layers of putty & make sure nothing ends up too out of whack.

If you've never used a putty oven before - beware: depending n the heat applied, The GS can get softer before hardening. It will still speed the cure, but be careful with any sticky-outy-bits (technical term..) with any weight to them - without support they can droop.

OK... started the head and although looks a bit skeleton like, its kinda ok.

Just a question though as I can't quite make out.

Has mephiston got horns? The pic I'm looking at is from an old Codex. He's got long hair showing at side of his head. On each side above these seems like something protuding out the side at his temple. What are these?

No horns - that's a very high collar - and I think it was meant to act as a psychic hood.

hmm... you sure? It looks like it comes out of his head.

It's actually in front of his locks of hair though? The hair from his forehead disappears behind this and drops to his shoulders.

Found this image. Its the green thing on his head. Are these wires?

They are wires connecting him to the physic hood as suggested earlier.
