I have to say that now that I've had a chance to handle the Demo kit that Rackham is handing out to their teams on the weekend all I can say is... WOW!

The figs are absolutely naf... the only thing that would need to be done is give them a wash and you have some seriously decent gaming figs. They're actually properly proportioned, extremely well detailed and the paint jobs are actually damn good to look at.

All the humans have torsos that are mounted on ball joints so it's possible to swap torsos and legs between figures so you have some variety in your force compared to the regular "cast in one piece" prepaints currently on the market. And as I understand it the troop expansions will ship with extra heads and weapons so you can customize your force a little more.

Individually the price per trooper when broken down seems to be about $1-1.50 more per figure than a comparable GW fig but the walkers in the line such as the Firetoad or Wraith seem to come in at roughly 2/3 the cost of a GW SM dreadnought while being similar in size.

Even a few of the local historical gamers ended up putting their name down for preorders for the box set after they tried it. Locally anyways this one looks like it could end up having quite the following.

The question is, can they maintain that level of quality in mass production?  No way to tell until the set start to ship.  But they do look good.

Seeing as the "demo kits" are actually the production models and not studio pieces I'd have to say that's probably a yes...

And if it's like anything else the theory is the quality should improve with time as the process gets streamlined and the bugs worked out.

:D

Well... at least thats the hope anyways.

I'm hoping that the big, wrapped box sitting under the Christmas Tree with my name on it  is the copy of this game I asked for for Christmas...  If it is I will add my thoughts on this game and the miniatures.

BTW, Heresiarch, when you say the minis are 'naf'. do you mean that in a good or bad way?  In the UK when you say somethings 'naf' it's not a good thing :;):  :p  :D

Hehe... what's the saying about two countries separated by a common language?

Duly noted... around here it gets used as a complimentary term not a pejorative. A not so minor difference that could result in a serious thumping if used in the wrong company.

Thanks for the heads up. :D

No, no, no, 'Naf' means 'I know'.

Over here, at any rate  :p  :;):  :p
Long 'a', by the way. Tomorrow, lesson two on the Maltese language.

Update on some forthcoming models for this game- that big beast of a model someone previously linked to pics of has a preview on the AT-43 website; apparently it's called an Overseer.

There's also a preview of another impressive looking warmachine, the Hekat.

I also like the look of the Human battle-suits, I'm looking forward to seeing what else they have planned for this range!

Saw this game today at the local shop - the figs are great, didnt like the  Overseer too much but the Dready type thing was good.  Very much like 40k but with nice crisp well pre-painted minis.  Didnt get to see the rules though so cant comment on them

Does anyone have this? If so, could they please answer - do the miniatures smell icky? My daughter has a lot of soft plastic toys that smell bad.

Erm, I got it for Christmas, and to be honest I've not smelt the miniatures...  ???  The Human miniatures are pretty sturdy, whilst the Alien (Therian) minis are a l'il bit bendy...

I'll have to get back to you on the smell issue :D

Thanks. I'm interested in the concept of prepainted semi-flexible miniatures, and noted that my progeny's toys looked like such things.

But they smell bad! Very plasticy.

So I got my AT-43 game last wekk :D. The figures look really nice. The best pre-painted stuff I have seen. I would say they are painted to an average gamer standard. The figures themselves are very nice. The quality of the sculpts are rackham level. The plastic doesn't not quite seem to be the same as a plastic model kit. Kind of a mix between a GW plastic and Wizkids plastic. The figures are solid, the only parts that are a little bent are the blades of the Therian Storm Golems. But I was able to straighten them out. The cool thing is that most of the figures are articulated.

UNA White Stars
The UNA White Star's can twist at there waist. It is actually a ball join so they can slightly bend forward or back.

UNA Fire Toad
The Fire Toad does move up and down at the joints where the legs attach to the body. At first I didn't think it was articulated until I gave it a little pressure and it moved. THe guns on the Fire Toad can move up and down and are removable.

Therian Storm Golems
The Therian Storm Golems do not move.

Therian Wraith Golgoth
The wraith can twist from side to side a slight bit. It is neat as the legs twist slightly when you do this. There is a black rod that connects the Wraith to it's base. If you look on the bottom there is a screw that can be removed. When doing so you can then remove the rod so the Wraith is standing on it's feet and not have some weird rod coming from the ground. Also I believe both weapons are mean to move on the wraith. The cannon rotates side to side and up and down. I think the missile launcher thing should be able to do the same but mine would not move. Possibly a sloppy glue job when being assembled? I am not sure. A lot fo the articulated joints need gentle but firm pressure before they would move.

UNA supply crate
You can open the doors to the crate and the infantry figures from both sides can fit inside.

Therian Generators
They look like alien flood lights. You can flip the light from front to back.

Wall sections
These can be used as individual walls but are also angled so you can put them together to form a larger arched wall.

Other items
You also get 6 x six sided dice, a 20-22 something page rule book (unless you count the four other languages in the book to make it 120 pages) , a roughly 3' x 2'? playing mat and a tape measure that has both cm and inches on it. The measuring tape part is a soft vinyl.

Over all I am very happy with what is in the box. I would give it a 4 out of 5 dice rating. My only complaint is the lack of a full set of rules. The rules in the box are quick start rules. They do not use all the abilities and such listed on the cards. The real rule book doesn't come out until March :( . At least by then I should have the basic rules down.

I do not recall the figures smelling bad. I have been adding highlights to the paint jobs, mainly to the faces and armour. So I have had them resonably close and do not recall them smelling odd.
