As I've just finished an army and was wondering what to buy next I've been caught by the look of Brigade's Aeronef fleets but I don't really know much about the game.

Has anyone here got any experience of it?  (I'm sure I've heard mention of it in these parts)

I was looking at Brigade's starter packs which seem like a decent way to get up and running (once they restock, high demand for these seems a good sign) and I'm liking the idea of Russia - Japan but I know nothing about the fleets and how they play so any info on this would be nice.

Cheers,

Orde

Whut - who me? Not unless I find an opponent...
It's got simple rules, which seem to work very well - at least in the one game I've managed. It's not an I go - you go turn sequence game, as both players get to move in the same turn depending on the command value of the units. A game can be quite fast, unless several units are used. It's got historical nations with scifi machines, which include three main categories:
Dirigibles
Aeronefs (which use anti gravity)
Aeroplanes - the latter having a minor role compared to the others, as they are small and unarmoured. You can get aircraft carrier dirigibles or Aeronefs for some fleets.
The rules are also being expanded to Aquanef (subs a la Nautilus) and Land Ironclads, with monster war machines and even troops and cavalry - at least according to plan, as LI and Aquanef have not been published yet.

The rules for the airships are not overdetailed - each vesel has hull points, gun points, command etc with corresponding points cost which can be calculated for any vessel from the range or conversions (yay  :D ) SImple, but effective.
The rule book includes all rules and a few scenarios, and the Captain's handbook adds extra rules and still more scenarios - not to mention gigantic monstrous flying beasties.
Not too expensive, either.  :D

Unfortunately, Tas is still poking holes in the water (or at least hasn't been in contact here), but he's definitely the best bet to talk to.

From what I've seen, most of the 'Nefs are broadly similar in design to pre-dreadnought 'wet-navy' ships, with the occasional 'dreadnought-class' battleship, and the fleets operate very similarly to that standard.  I'm pretty sure that the Kongo would be a fair match against a similarly-gunned 'Nef.

However, this is based strictly on the looks of the models and what I've read from Tas on the subject.

I've always been itching to try Aeronef as well, but, just like everyone else, I wouldn't have anyone to play against. Eventually I'll collect a fleet or two just to paint - it looks like fun.

Hi Guys,

It's a good game... we end up playing SGOM more though.

I just had a battle report on my blog not that long ago.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
