DS: Thanks!

I've put the new barrel on the Vanquisher, and I'm in the home stretch with the Demolishers. ?I've touched up the camo patches, added all the details near the engines, basecoated the plasma cannons, painted up the treads, and attached the turrets and plows. ?All I have to do now is drybrush the plows, touch up their camo patches, finish off the plasma cannons, and correct any oopses that I've made.

Then comes spraying the matte finish onto all 10 tanks!

I've been taking pictures of my progress, but none are ready to show (I need to resize and crop them and upload them to my website). ?Considering that Council is this weekend (please let me know if you're planning to come... PM me if you'd like), I probably will complete all the work before I get to the pictures.

I've already picked out the purchase for October. ?Any guesses?

I'll stick my neck out and speculate:

-Super-heavies?

-Aircraft?

Ladles and gentlespoons, may I present the 2nd Dragoon Squadron of Battleforce Floyd! Yes, I know that the infantry were Delta company. Colonel Floyd's battleforce was assembled from the shattered remnants of other regiments; this leads to some odd naming conventions, but the Colonel is more interested in results, not adherence to some arbitrary (and culture-specific) nomenclature. I still have to spray all the tanks with a matte finish, but that should only take half an hour some morning or evening.

I've also posted a close up picture of my Demolishers. I'm rather happy with how the plasma cannons turned out and the details on the plows. Again, I put in about 3 hours of work on each tank, so the entire company took 30 hours or so.

For the rest of the week, I'll be helping my wife put together some terrain. I've already got some buildings and vegetation, but she's started on a river and some hills. All told, I want to have enough terrain for two gaming tables. Moscovian has graciously volunteered to bring terrain for two more. Unless a whole lot more people sign up in the next 4 days, that should be plenty.

P.S. I'm not telling what I'm getting for my third month until after this weekend, so please continue to speculate.

Lovely units and Well done.

You still have to provide the details to the Leman Russ conversion.  Unless I missed it earlier.

OOPS! ?:( ?Sorry. ?I'd forgotten I owe you that. ?Here you are.

First, I took a Leman Russ model that I had three copies of, and sawed off it's top hatch with an Exacto saw. ?There are three periscopes in front of the hatch that got sawed off as well, because they were in the way, and I damaged a bit of the top of the rest of the turret, but not too badly. ?I saved the remaining bit of hatch for later use and filed the hatch down to make it level (and caused a little more damage).

I then took a Commisar (SM/TL era... I don't know how similar it is to the E40K/E:A era model) and clipped it at the waist (right below the arms). ?I filed the torso to help even out the line, and make it flat.

I next clipped a square of plastic card, clipped the corners to make an octogon, and filed it down to a rougly circular shape that was roughly the size of the spot the hatch used to occupy. ?I glued the sawn off hatch to the bit of card.

The Vanquisher cannon is an aluminum tube (I can get the exact dimensions if you want) that I cut about 1 cm from the end with a saw (half an inch... whatever, I eyeballed it so it looked right). ?The cut was angled at about 30 degrees. ?I filed that down to make it even and smoothed the sharp edges.

I painted the spot where the hatch used to be (black in the center, light grey on the edge to give the illusion of depth), and glued the Commisar down. ?I painted the Commisar's back and the hatch before the hatch was glued in place behind him. ?The tube was glued onto the end of the battle cannon (I wasn't able to get in a pin to support it... a drill may have helped). ?After that, I used my normal painting methods (basecoat, wash, drybrush, and some highlights picked out with light strokes -- I should start calling it "wetbrush":)). ?

The kill rings were kinda tricky. ?I painted the white first, then tried to get a nice, steady, thin line of black using an 00 detail brush with a tiny bit of paint doing a small arc at a time. ?When I screwed that up and made an ugly, wavy, thick line of black, I tried to fix it by painting white on top of the black. ?Because I overcompensated, I had to go back with the black (and back with the white again). ?The result won't really hold up to close inspection, but looks pretty good in the picture and at a distance, and it just took perseverence. ?I really like the added detail for the command tank, and it hides the seam between the model and the extension.

Thanks for the details.

Was the barrel glued to the body of the turret or atatched at the mid point of the barrel.

It's a great conversion and you can't guy the GW one sperately from the company pack so that why I ask all the questions.  Sorry

Yeah, my inability to get a Vanquisher is why I converted up mine! ?I picked a tube with an inner diameter that fits of the end of the existing model. ?It's only held on by about 1 or 2 mm inside the tube, and the ring at the end of the tube. ?Take a look at tank with the Commisar in the picture below; it shows the end of the battle canon that the tube attached to. ?In fact, you can even see (a little) where the tube broke off.

I converted an SM2 L/Russ to Vanq, the same way !  I made an Executioner too. The part of the Barrel I cut off to mount a 40K scale Plasma Pistol, I glued on to another L/Russ ... = Vanq ! :D     And again, nice job, 454!
