Nice looking Lemans, Suvarov.

I always you a spray-on matte finish. I find it easier to use and it does a more even and thorough job than I can do by hand.

I've used spray-on matte finish before. ?I couldn't find any the last time I went shopping, hence my foray into paintbush-delivered finish. ?I definitely think spray-on is the way to go.

That's why I try to buy more before I actually run out.

Today, contrary to my expectations, I was actually able to get some work done!  I got in an hour this afternoon while the kids both slept, and some time tonight.  It was enough for me to do some surgery on one of the Russes.  I sawed off it's top hatch, clipped out a circle of plastic card, chopped a Commisar in half, filed everything nice and flat, glued the pieces together, and added an extension to the Battle Cannon's barrel (using some 3/32 aluminium tube I bought from the hobby store back on the 8th).

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you my Vanquisher command tank!  It comes complete with a Commisar character to give it Leader, Fearless, and Inspiring (don't leave home without one)!  While some my question my choice to permanently assign a Commisar to my Leman Russ Company, I fully intend to always assign one to the tanks every game I play.  Yes, I'm losing out on a decent MW CC attack; one less suppressed tank each rally is worth it to me, and this way my AT 2+ attack can never be taken as a hackdown casualty.  I also expect to use the Russ company's 4+ FF quite agressively, so the extra +1 DRM to assault resolution will come in handy.

My only worry is how fragile my converted pieces are.  I'll just have to be careful with it.  I may even break down and give the Vanquisher a base.  It'll look dopey with the tank body only taking up half the base's length, but it'll protect the barrel, and give me something to pick it up by besides the Commisar.  Maybe I'll try to play without the base, and add one later if I encounter any problems.

OOPS!!!  I just notice I didn't post this entry yesterday!  Sorry, gang.

I got another hour and a half of work done tonight.  That let me drybrush the Vanquisher, basecoat and highlight the Commisar, touch up the camo sections (although, I see now that I missed the one in the front), basecoat the leather and fuel tank, and give my command tank three kill rings.  Yes, Virginia, those are hand painted.  In fact, there were only going to betwo kill rings, but I hadn't put quite enought white down, and I ended up overcompensating when I tried to correct it.  Nevertheless, I'm quite pleased with the result.  I should have the tank wrapped up with another hour's work.  Still, I'm going to have to hustle if I'm going to finish off all ten tanks by the 5th.

Extending the Battle Cannon is easy. ?Sawing off the hatch is a nail-biter (and I damaged some of the surrounding details... nothing serious, but still). ?I can get you details on the metal tubing if you'd like. ?If I'd had more time (and/or didn't have the turret already attached to the body), I'd have tried to put a pin down the barrel first, so the extension had more structure to hold on to.

Aargh!!!  A downside to working until midnight on your models is that you forget important things.  Like to put your models away in a safe place!!!  My wife found it, and put it up, so I thought I'd gotten away with my mistake, but I just tonight realized that the barrel extension is missing!  I've got to re-manufacture the barrel, prime it, attach it, and paint it again!  :O

Oh well... at least this time I'll take the time to add a pin to reinforce the barrel.

I'll give more details when I get a chance.  I've only got 7 days left to replace the barrel, finish off the four tanks I'm currently working on, paint up the Demolishers, and finish my preparations for the Council of Five Nations tourney.

They couldnt be any  more fragile than my FW Vanquishers....for some reason the turrets won't stay put.. :p   But a bit of superglue generally fixes that issue...

Nice work, btw!

Except for replacing the extension to the battle canon of the Vanquisher command tank, I have completed the two Leman Russ and two Hydra tanks I was working on. I didn't have all that much to do, just basecoating and highlighting the treads and some touchups here and there. I got it done in a little over an hour of work.

All told, it took about 11 hours to complete them, so I'm still taking about 3 hours per tank. That means I have nine more hours of work (for the three Demolisher tanks), and less than a week to do them in. It's a reasonable goal, but I also need to help my wife finish off the river, and I want some hills. Oh, and I've got to prepare for the tournament and Grand Melee ;^). Not to mention that the CEO wants a beta release on Monday the 8th.  I still have to hustle.

Just tell your boss you have more important (gaming) projects that need to be finished first.  :p

My wife took the kids over to a friends house so she could discuss children's activities, and to give me an evening of uninterrupted painting. Between that, and some extended naps this afternoon, I've gotten nearly four hours of work in on the Demolishers. As you can see in the pictures, I've gotten the camo painted on, the wash applied, and the drybrushing completed. What you can't see is the plows and the hedgecutter, because they're being painted separately until I can complete the details on the fronts of the tanks.

I've also started working on the replacement for the Vanquisher's battle cannon, and I've based (and primered) a stand of Ogryns with a Commisar. If I get any beginners signing up for the Grand Melee at Council of Five Nations next weekend, I want to lend them an army completely free from Aircraft and War Engines. They may not have the most competative army around and a few of the models only be primered, but they also won't have to worry about all those fiddly rules.
