Wow. Nothing quite like a close call to get your attention. Kinda reminds me of the time my college town got 'boomed' by an SR71. At 0400 local. rattled the entire town, and got quite a few calls to 9-1-1. Of course, this was in the boondocks of Idaho, where military jet noise is pretty normal, so it probably didn't get as much attention as your meteor did.
I'll try to ask the University geology department what size the New Zealand meteor was before the rock hit the ground (ocean?)

Very Cool ! I saw a meteorite burn up on my way back to Ft.Benning, GA from Atlanta ! And in the ROK, he'd hear the Sonic Booms frequently of SR-71s running recons along the North-South border along the DMZ ! We think they USAF just did it to mess the N. Koreans !!
