I have one Soviet, er, Khador box (The one with two jacks and a chick (Sorscha)   ). I'm going to start doing a Red Star legion. All dark green & large red stars.  :p

I really like the War Machine background & the game itself is quite fun, although I wish they did a second edition of the rules with all the errata incorporated.

That said, I do have one thing I don't like. Namely, the lack of generic warcasters. I've heard all the argumentsa about why there is not one, but I still don't like it. I want to forge the legend of comrade Borscht and his Red Star legion. Not invent new excuses about why the ripped apart warcasters weren't really killed.

Well, there is a generic Warcaster in the game, but only if you play as Cygnar (the Journeyman)

And you still need one of the characters, though.

And yeah, I agree with you about the lack of generic 'casters for each faction...

Oh, and if you're interested:

Hordes Quickstart rules, and stat cards for the figures in the 4 first box sets.

I'm another in the "very tempted but oh no not another scale" camp.  Ive thought the same thing about VOID from time to time as well.

A little voice of reason tries to say that I have enough 6mm, 15mm, naval and Aeronef stuff to last forever, but I manage to muzzle him most of the time

It's simple, Tas, you buy the Warjacks and use them as the basis for Iron Warriors titans.

What size games do people play of Warmachine. So far I have only dabbled in the 300-350 points range because that was all I had painted up (one Cygnar starter box).

My initial reaction after half a dozen games at that level (against Cryx and Khador) was that good fun beer & pretzels game but no great degree to tactical/strategic thinking.

Does the nature of the game change when you increase size of game to 500-750 points? Does it play better when you start adding Units of troops as well as the Caster & Jacks?

Cheers

James

I usually see games of either 500 or 1000pts being played - haven't got to play much of it recently though...

Best place for faction tactics discussions would be over here...

In other news, the new cover art for Hordes: Primal:

EDIT: Also, colour pdfs of the Hordes starter set cards here!

I have heard of a game of Warmachine at 3k per side, but I believe that the 'typical' games are in the 500-750 point range (750 allows epic casters, which are epically nasty).

I'm building a 600point Cygnar force, myself, centered around 2 squads of Stormblades, with Stryker as their warcaster.  ZZZZZZZAP!

Hi!

That new game looks pretty cool. Privateer certainly has its act together.

Yeah. Making a new game which still ties in directly with the Warmachine is a clever idea as the new one appeals to those who like "pure" fantasy and not the steampunk fantasy of the Warmachine. Those who want can use the games together and the fans of the two separate genres can play their own game without bothering with the other. And nobody is p***ed off.

I must admit I _really_ like the way they've constructed their world. I bought the Iron Kingdoms RPG books just to read the fluff and was not disappointed.

Only problem I have is that it seems to be absurdly hard to get the "No Quarter" magazine in here. I'm still waiting for issue #3.

Nerroth-
I like the game but I don't like the PP Forums- they are almost as infantile as GW Forums.
Yet another reason to stick with Epicomms!! :D

Mojarn-
Have you tried ebay? I usually pick up my copy of No Quarter there.

I agree with you as well in that I like the way PP have done Hordes. I am not going to rush out and buy it straight away as I would like to get more my Cygnar painted first. But just like Rackham, PP seem to produce some amazing minatures.

Cheers

James

Now, if only they'd fire Mike McVey, and get someone who doesn't make basic troopers 6-part metal models!  Those Stormblades are frustrating.

The minis are B-E-A-U-tiful, though, even if they are a pain to assemble.

Hi

My copy of No Quarter Magazine Issue 4 arrived in the post yesterday- ebay seller was very quick!

There is an interesting little feature showing a quick game of Hordes vs Warmachine so you can see some of differences between games and how they interact. Featured a small Cygnar Warmachine force (just the basic Cygnar box set) against a small Trollkin Hordes force (again just basic Trollking box set). I think they were trying to keep it simple- they said that 2 forces were n't even points although I don't know which would be higher points total. I know that Cygnar box set is 318 points- I don't kow about Trollkin.

There was another couple of pages showing a Skorne Warbeast (a Gladiator Titan??) being constructed and painted. Certainly was an impressive looking model.

There was an interesting historical (in Warmachine terms) scenario featuring a 100 year old Cygnar vs Khador battle. Was interesting to see how they got around the problems of using old Jacks no longer in active service. I feel tempted to go out and paint some merc Jacks in Cygnar colours, which was probably the whole point of the article!
:D
Cheers

James

How about posting your lists here?

I'm making an MoW heavy themed list.

Currently, mine are as follows:

Vlad
Behemoth
Destroyer
5 man MoW DC
Manhunter

482 points

Waiting for my MoW Kovnik and Bokur and/or Drakhun (when it comes out).

I will then either use:

Vlad
Behemoth
MoW Kovnik
Destroyer
4 man MoW DC
Manhunter

Vlad
Behemoth
MoW Kovnik
5 man MoW DC
3 man MoW ST
Manhunter
Bokur

496 points

or

Vlad
Behemoth
MoW Drakhun
5 man MoW DC
3 man MoW ST
Manhunter

493 points

My planned 750 point list would look like this:

Vlad
Behemoth
MoW Kovnik
Destroyer
MoW Drakhun
5 man MoW DC
3 man MoW ST
Widowmakers
Manhunter
Bokur

495 points

Slow yes, but those are the models I really like. I don't think I'll win as many games as I like but I will be very happy with all the models I have.

Admiral d'Artagnan!  Haven't seen you since the SG re-org!  How've you been?

Personally, I don't like the Behemoth.  (Aside from the fact that it's a pain to assemble)  I'd switch to another Destroyer and more MOW ST.

You really like the Demo Corps, don't you...  Can't say I blame you.

If you're going to expand to a 750 point force, pick up Epic Vlad.  He's my favorite Epic 'caster.  Blood of Kings is evil when applied to things like a Man-o-War or Manhunter.

Like you, I can't wait until the MOW Drakhun comes out, but the Iron Fang Uhlans look nasty, too.

Time to further build up the Storm Division with a unit or two of Storm Lances.

Oh, yeah.  Almost forgot.

By the unholy Powers of the Internet, I command this thread to live again!!!! Mwahahahahahahahaha!!!!!
