The amount he's done for conservation of Australian native species is amazing. Let's hope the work he's left behind is a suitable epitath. (sp?)

I had the pleasure of seeing Steve do his show with the crocs at Australia Zoo last Christmas. He was a great performer and a passionate man. It is a pitty, he will be missed around the world. As already stated he has done a great service to wildlife and Australian Tourism.

It is quite a shock - especially that it wasn't to a snake or croc either... I know he was much admired & loved by many people around the world - especially in Australia, but it is especially sad that he has left two small children. It's a real shame.

Just saw that in the news ... too bad ... but he took so many risks, it finally caught up to him ... Sorry to see him go. But as any soldier knows ... the more you push the envelope, the better your chances of "crapping out". R.I.P Steve ... you'll obviously be missed ...

I am sorry to see this.
He was stuck with a 'barb" that was between 8 and 12 inches in length. I do not know many people who could take that to the chest and live. Regardless of the venom that was also released into his chest cavity.
He will be missed.

I had heard about his death from a neighbor, but it didn't really hit home until I see a piece about it on tv. What a tragic loss, and leaving a wife and two children makes it even worse.
