Hi al,
I'm not doing any modelling this morning, but housework... but as I dust I like to listen to something good. And not that I stopped to think, I like a bit of music as I model stuff too.
Now the bold and noisy stuff is good for battles (I have a grand memory of a WHFB Chaos vs Bretonnians battle to the theme from The 13th Warrior....). But what about modelling?
I got all nostalgic because I was playing an old cassette (!) - Love over gold, Dire Straits... and when I stood the box on the modelling table, I remembered I used to do this years ago, when I as around 18 or 19..... worlds ago and befor Epic.
It still works. ?:D Any thoughts?

Well, when I'm making/painting miniatures I either have one of the following:

- a video of Simpsons/Father Ted/Frasier
- the commentary from a movie on DVD - going through the LotR appendices was good for background entertainment!
- or I listen to music, from my many and various tastes - Indie, electronic, rock...

it's not only nice to have a bit of background noise to focus the other part of your mind on, but it's useful for measuring how long you've been at it, or are allowing yourself to do it on that particular day.

That my 2 pen-orth on the subject! :D

I listen to classical music, various soundtracks. etc, etc.  As of late, I have been favoring Holst's the Planets...  :)

I used to have some ropey tape on in the garage, back in the day.

These days I?m stuck in the kitchen so the tv in the living room is what I get to listen to.  It?s strangely soothing :)

Back in my single days my painting table was near my tv and stereo. If I had the tv on while painting, I preferred something that didn't require complete concentration, like a football game or soemthing I had already seen. Most of the times, though, I listened to music, usually something from my CD collection which is mostly rock with some classical sprinkled in. Whenever I here anything from Queensryche's Empire album I think of Warhounds, since that was what I was painting at the time I bought the CD.  :D

Now my painting is confined to the workbench in my basement, I have neither a tv or steroe, but I do have a radio/cassette player to provide music. Usually I just turn on the radio (which is always tuned to a Classic Rock station), but sometimes I pop in a tape.

Discovery channel and/or some sort of documentary... or CNN on the TV...or a good radio show...or even sound books! Great way to learn and paint at the same time! :cool:

A football match is always good, other that that it's usually the radio though occasionally I'll throw in a CD or two, I'm eclectic too, the only music I can't stand is Country, sorry Evil and Chaos.

Once I listened to the Alien soundtrack. Not a good choice for painting. You realize how much of the tension and jumpiness at the theatre is due to the music. :)

Now I just listen to whatever I'm in the mood for. So anything from jazz to heavy metal.

...definitely the stereo,FM,always. A true mix of music though,anything but hip hop!

I like New Age or Movie Soundtracks. Either is good, low background music.

I find anything too hard and it is almost a distraction for me. I find myself listening to the music and not working.

It depends on my mood and what I am working on. For Sisters of Battle I usually go for things like E Nomine or Carl Orff's O Fortuna, for Marines it's typically metal ("Like thunder from the sky/Sworn to fight and die/We're warriors.../Warriors of the World!!!") and so on... Dark Eldar/Dark Elves usually result in some Gothic Rock or Gothic Metal.

But there are exceptions from the rule - in fact, a year back when I was working on a particularly complex paintjob (that Celestian I prize so much), I have switched progressively to heavier and heavier music to keep myself awake and aware. The final licks of paint were put on to the sound of Amon Amarth, "Death in Fire" (that's Viking Death Metal... superheavy stuff)
