AFAIK it used to be barrage, but the flame template was taken to use to make it somewhat different.

EDIT: But the rules for using flame template should be made none the less.

Well, my proposal *would* use the flame template instead of the round template, but would use all the "normal" rules for barrages and such, with any necessary tweaks relating to the template.

There are few problems

1) Centre line vs template centre
2) AA capability in flame templates

1 - I don't particularly mind on this one, though the centreline sounds fine.

2 - Give it (Where relevant) BP2 / AA5+ ?

I don't see why not, BP are only ever used when making an explicit attack, AA is only ever used defensively/passively. There could be a notation in the Template rules to make this explicit.

Other thing of note about the 'Make it a BP weapon' is that BP weapons place extra BMs. Even 2 BP each will mean a squad of 2 will get 2 20cm long, 5cm(roughly) wide flame-templates to lay down. A squad with 4x LFGs will lay down a rediculous 3 flame-templates (I think) and place something like 2 extra BMs. And a  Warlord with 4x Inferno Guns? 3x flame templates, 5x blast markers, just for shooting. Never midn casualties. You can hose down an entire formation without even trying with that...

Well, since that short range firepower comes at the expense of nearly everything else, I think that's a fair trade.

Remember, you could just take a Warhound squadron with 4x Rocket Launchers, and lay down some very comparable attacks, without being guaranteed to be in range for a counter-assault in the following turn.

Frankly, giving Light Inferno Guns 2BP looks to be a perfect solution, given the numerous disadvantages of the flame template weapon.

Only the Light Inferno Gun uses the flame template.
