Hi,

There seems to be a bug in Firefox that affects the viewing of pages generated by this version of ikonboard. In some posts the generated HTML has a comment in the middle of a line of code. Firefox seems to be interpreting this as a comment to the end of the line. Since there is valid content after the comment on the same line, all of that content is lost. Sometimes it also affects the layout of the page.

This was noted by other Firefox users in this thread.

I will try to isolate the problem and send in a bug report to mozilla.com.

I can confirm that the latest Firefox version (1.5.0.6) shows this behaviour.

You could always use 'NutScrape'. :p

I'll have to doublecheck which version of Firefox my Dad has on this machine, but I'm fairly sure it's the latest release.

Thank goodness for Linux.  Konqueror is almost too robust.

I don't think that will help, since they both use the same parser and rendering engine. I know that Safari works fine, and it uses much of the same engine as Konquerer (KHTML).

I also wonder if the problem is a combination of Firefox + restoring from backups. Still, from what I'm seeing in the source HTML, I believe that Firefox should render it properly.

Many thanks. I have informed Ikonboard of this.

Can you give an example of this?

Thanks.

Yes, in this thread, look at the source for post number 5 by dafrca. Everything from the "A comment declaration starts with . A comment starts and ends with "--", and does not contain any occurrence of "--".

So the comment in the source that reads:
CODE

is actually not a valid comment. It is the extra "--" between "QuoteBegin" and "primarch" that actually delineates the comment, and the "primarch+01 May 2006 (19:30)" is extraneous text. Then another comment is started (within the same comment declaration!) immediately before what other browsers see as the end of the comment declaration. This very rigorous parsing of the comment tags leads to all sorts of confusion!

The basic rule is that there must be an even multiple of occurences of the "--" sequence in a valid HTML comment. Betcha didn't know that little gotcha, did ya?

Thank the Stars I am using the hated Explorer that does not seem to have any issues at all with this forum or the code.  :;):

Sorry, could not resist.  :p
