Makes too much sense, that's why G/W didn't think of it ...

Ouch, I'm sure they felt that one...

Hi!

Your monthly allotment of anti-GW statements has been exceeded. You are now required to say at least one good thing about them or be terminated.... :p

Of course this from someone who has exceeded his YEARLY allowance.

Primarch and NetEpic Gang,

I really like NetEpic, but dislike the direction that NetEpic has taken regarding the Necrons. I haven't checked recently, but before the Slann and the Necrons were one and the same. I like the GW story line much better with the Necrons vs. the Old Ones (Slann).

Does NetEpic plan to reconcile this issue?

Personally, I just like collecting 6mm sci-fi figures and the more aliens the better in my opinion.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Primarch - I like the new issue of White Dwarf, and I have a subscription - how's that?! :D ?

Maksim,

I like 6mm aliens too, the Pendraken Aliens look just like in the Movies!

And I have some more coming, one set should look like the Predators that Arnold went toe-to-toe with!

And the Lizardmen are a traditonal alien enemy of us humans! ?

Kirk even duked it out with one on Star Trek years ago! ?

The Aliens will go to my 'Nids, Predators to the Kroot and Lizardmen to the Exodites...

I need to go check out the Netepic more. Do they have the Necrons and Slann as "one group"?

Actually yes. This point has come up early in the revision and promises to be hotly debated between who want their own fluff and background for them and those who want to follow the 40k background.

As usually happens on these matters I forsee TWO lists, the one we have now and a split list with necrons as their own list.

So you can pick that which suits you the most.

We like giving choices!

Hi!

Yes, Dafrca, in NetEpic the Slann/Necron are one army. This is a brief rundown on the fluff:

- The Slann are the first sentient race in the universe to achieve intergalactic travel. Although the warp was not tainted back then, they constructed the webway as an efficient means of transport. During this time they seeded many worlds and nutured many fledgling primitive races. Some say they even molded human evolution. Of these "child" races that they favored the most was the Eldar and thus this is why the Eldar are the most technically advanced and can use the webway.

- Slann nature changed from explorers and innovators to an introspective "sluggish" nature. Their expansion and relations with fledgling races died away until they were forgotten in many places. It was during this time they started to manipulate DNA and create life to serve them. They found biologic forms were "less efficient" and thus evolved "sentient machines" as servants.

- Many thousands or even millions of years of indifference passed by... until they were rudely awakened... by the Tyranids.

- The Tyranids were a product of the Slann's own genius at genetic maipulation and experimentation with life forms to aid them in their explorations. They invented a highly adaptable, but aggressive lifeform, which was also sentient. Instead of the Tyranid's worshipping their creators, they saw the Slann as... food. More genetic material to their insatiable lust for DNA.

- It started as raids on the fringes of Slann civilizations, but then the raids developed into full scale invasions. Unlike other foes, they learned and adpated... fast. Even the god-like Slann technology could not prevail for long in such an attritional war.

- All seemed doomed until the Slann saw their salvation in their humble machine servants. For aeons the sentient machines that served the Slann did so efficiently and humbly. They were easy to mass produce and utterly loyal. With a switch in programing they became the perfect warriors. Obedient unto death and strong.

- The Tyranid advance not only stalled but was pushed back on all fronts. The Tyranids could not learn or adapt from this new non-biological enemy since it had no DNA to assimilate. The Slann and their machines hunted the Tyranids almost to extinction. The Tyranids, sensing their own destruction, fled the Slann galaxies seeking easier prey, which they have found aplenty and have ever since flourished!

- When they Tyranids reached the galaxy of man, the Slann followed. They demanded the obedience of the "lesser" races such as humans, but found them to be "unruly." It is from these first encounters of man with the Slann machines that the term "Necrons" was coined, which in Imperial gothic means "death," which is the fate of those who oppose them.

- That's the "short" version.

Primarch.

I really like this plot hook. I wonder what the Tyranids would do if faced with a non-biological enemy with no DNA to absorb.

Would the Tyranids even recognize the machines as a threat?

A revived Necron force would wreak havoc on Necrons actually destroying their food sources as well as means of reproduction.

Great idea!

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Thank you Primarch.

I did not like the idea when it was first read, Necron and Slann???

But I must admit the write up you present is well thought out and offers a lot of variations/game situations.

Well done!

Hi!

The fluff was written because of the need to make a Slann army and also accomodate the proxies we wanted to use.

- We also thought that the Slann were a race that did not have a high birth rate and thus could never wage a true attrition war without some "expendable" troops.

- Since we made them have very high tech weapons and armor, a robotic forces like the Necrons seemed a good idea.

- As amphibians we viewed them as physically weak and sluggish, but using technology to make up for this we came up with their heavy use of "knights" or mechs as their main battle weapon.

- Slann disdain slogging around the battlefield like other troops so we came up with the "battlesuit" idea which are basically dreadnoughts.

- The Tyranids have real difficulty with the Necrons since they are not only organic, but have "auto-repair" system akin to regeneration that make them VERY resilient.

- Also, like Tyranids they know no fear, so whatever psychological edge they might have over organic targets is non-existant against Necrons.

- The Slann are now trying to erradicate them across the universe, but the Tyranids are an inter-galactic version of the roach, very hard to totally eliminate.

- They do recogmize them as threats, the problem is that they have yet to find a way to learn from this enemy as they do with other organic enemies.

- With organic enemies, they can kill an absorb knowledge and function through absorption of the genetics. In the case of Necrons their are no genes to assimilate.

- On one hand the Tyranids are the ultimate predator, but at the same time they flee are greater threat that are the Necron.

- One interesting plot to really screw up things is to make the sentient machines finally rebel against the Slann and seek dominance.

Now that would be scary!

And this is, more or less, the GW plot device!

P.S.
I E-mailed you off-board about the photos.
