Er - who me? I only build this sort of stuff, how you use it is up to you... :;):
How's about a device for using the shield generator on Gimpy as an anti-aircraft device: you lose a shield for the turn you use it in, and instead direct an energy pulse against an attacking aircraft. Perhaps as a multi-shot weapon - one shield per shot, though!

Or an area effect weapon that works on living things only.

Or a blast template weapon that fires in a short range, say in contact with the base.

Or...
