I tend to do that too, use Heresy era TOE's.

(Due to a general lack of the heresy-era TO&Es on my part...*hint, hint*)
My Dark Angels are going to have 24 Land Raiders, 36 Rhinos, 28 Razorbacks, 25? (5 blisters is how I wrote it) Whirlwind/Hunters, 32 Predators, 16 Vindicators, 30 Dreads, and 20 Drop pod (markers. I'm not buying 1 per squad.).
What's going to hurt is the 30-40 Thunderhawks and 10 Landing Craft.

Surely you can have 25 hunters and 25 whirlwinds if you use plastic rhinos?

The Heresy MTO&Es are still the best IMO ! Doug posted some of mine before "the Great Crash of '05" !

Good point, Chris. I've got a few olde-skool plastic rhinos running around.
L4, got any spare e-copies of those TO&Es hiding someplace?

You only need one per formation, not squad/stand now Lion. Ive grouped mine up into little diaoramas- though that is still a WIP...

I know that for _playing_ purposes you only need one per formation, but for having the entire chapter and their equipment, it would have been nice to get everything. I just can't justify the $$ anymore.
L4: Uhhh, yes please?
(e. all of the above)

Quote (Lion in the Stars @ 16 Dec. 2005 (19:50)) | Yes, I'd like 2-3 hundred Mk6 Marines. I'm trying to build the entire Dark Angels chapter in Epic (and the fleet in BFG), and I'm starting from scratch next year (2006). I'd like as much variety as I can get away with in the force. | So how is the chapter doing?

Thought I'd resurrect this thread for a while. I've got a couple of quick questions -
1 - What was the general consensus on the size of the chapter? Was it 1000 front line marines in the actual company's with support crews not being counted towards the overall total? Or did the 1000 have to count those crew as well?
2 - I'm planning on building a second edition Ultramarine chapter, from this I'm basing it on 10 company cards plus 5 support for each but have 1 each of the captain, chaplain, librarian, medic special cards for each company. Not sure how I'll fit in all teh armour that has been proposed, might have to create new support cards for the larger formations suggested or combine support cards. Should I stick to standard second edition rules set or adopt 3/4th edition sizes as they seem more flexible for the overall chapter?
3 - Mainly directed at The_Real_Chris how is your rebuilding plans going!
Thanks

Was it 1000 front line marines in the actual company's with support crews not being counted towards the overall total? Or did the 1000 have to count those crew as well? | There was a very funny thread somewhere on the internet saying that a chapter was massive (to account for the losses they took) and it was a myth propegated to terrify others. As in 'We are sure we killed a thousand, are they that tought they just get up again?'
Anyway. How big a chapter is varies I reckon. No doubt chapter masters the galaxy over interpret 1000 marines in a different fashion. I'm sure some mean it to be front line troops and some total number of chaps.
I'd go with front line troops personally as otherwise you would need to have 3 companies deployed as drivers, starship command crew, headquarters staff etc.

First off have you seen the company and support cards for the E:A game done by an industrious fellow?
Second, don't you remember that 2nd ed had Land Raider, Predator, Vindicator etc company cards in addition to the 10 core companies? Voila! All your armour!
3 - Mainly directed at The_Real_Chris how is your rebuilding plans going! |
Got virtually everything bar the metal metal marines, razorbacks, couple of character packs. Running low on blue spray paint

One thing to remember is that casualties are not by necessity 'dead' just out-of-action. It's quite possible for a Marine to survive getting his arm blown off by enemy weaponry, but he certainly isn't going to keep fighting that battle! That's one of the assumptions I see made more then any other. That a failed save means the model is automatically 'dead'. Which isn't by necessity true, just out of action. It's seen all over their fiction material. Characters get themselves shot, cut up, sometimes even sliced open in order to perform in-body surgery, and it doesn't kill them... But they don't keep fighting after having a bullet pass through their kidney.
