Hi all, one of the ten thousand things I really don't like (such as boiled eggs and correcting exam papers) is the Eurovision contest. The three abysmal local TV stations abandon their usual tawdry fare (you guessed it, no Star Trek, no Battlestar Galactica, no Dr. Who, no Babylon 5, no Simpsons, no Futurama..... no films, even - a recent innovation) to promote Eurovision, which I'm afraid to say many Maltese follow with the passion usually reserved for support of the Italian or English football teams (our own team rarely makes sports headlines, and that's only when Andorra or the Faroes or Jersey beat us 12-0 or something).
Anyway, to get to the point, although I'm not a fan of heavy metal, this year's Finnish entry, which I spotted on a news website, are something else: they're a great command squad for a chaos army! The only trouble is I'd never manage something so elaborate. I might try, though... I wonder, how do you model 20" platform shoes.... ? ?
Anyway, just for once, I've been inspired by Eurovision. thank you Finland! ?
PS - Mojarn, that's not you in one of those masks or the heavy make-up, is it?

Oh dear, that was so bad. The finnish people looked funny but what a crappy music. The whole songfestival has become an eastern europe orgy. They always vote on their neighbours.
Eurovision should be scrapped.
Listen new album by Tool, 10,000 Days, now that is music.

That's music... this is music... now there's a subjective statment.
For example, in Firestorm-land, the following counts as music (at least at present, while I listen to them obsessively):
'Antics' by Interpol 'Takk...' by Sigur Ros 'Mesmerize'/'Hypnotise' by System of a Down 'Mr Beast' by Mogwai
Anyway, isn't this supposed to be general Wargames Discussion? ?In answer, Vanvlak, I've not seen the Finnish band in question, so can't comment on their appropriateness for being the basis of a Chaos Command squad, but I did hear on the radio that the Finnish government really doesn't like them and wants them withdrawn as Finland's entry - something to do with them being satanists or whatever ?
EDIT: for spelling - I'm already on the wine this evening, but I'm entitled to, just finished the 2nd of the 3 remaining Assignments I have to finish before I graduate!

Quote (firestorm40k @ 21 May 2006 (12:21)) | ? Judging by the quality of the UK's entry this year, that was probably how the UK selectors were thinking! | Ah, but ours was worse still! Repeating 'I do' 36 times in one song sure helped.....

Oh my! It's like a toned down Gwar! I went to a Gwar show in the early '90s. Some memories are better left suppressed

Like I said, I won't admit anything...
Although if you've ever seen the episode of Father Ted where they enter Eurovision, winning Eurovision might be down to other countries entering their worst song, just to avoid the cost of hosting it...
|
Yep. This has apparently been the strategy in here too (until now): take the worst artists, make them perform their worst song and, then, choose the worst of them all.
Good for Lordi. Bad for us taxpayers who'll have to shell out the cash to pay for the hosting of that vanity fair next year. I wonder whether they'll cut defense budget, health care, school funding or police/rescue funding to get the money? Obviously they can't cut something important like the travel or entertainment expense budget of our parliament members. Upping the cost of TV licence is an option too.
