Hi all,

I'm looking to start a secondary army for E:A.  I've already got a Squat army so I'd like to adopt an official tourney army to play with.

Ideally I'm looking for something similar to the Squat army style (sit back defend and shoot up the opposition) so that kind of draws me towards the IG.  (I've already got some IG stuff that I've acquired in other lots)

I'm willing to listen to persuasive arguments for other races, but they must be fun to play and not to weak or strong (a nice fair match against most opponents would be nice)

Options are (?) -

Tau
Eldar
Chaos
Tyranid
IG
Titan legions
Ork
Marines

Is that it?

Thanks

Orks. Orks are the greatest race around. Not very defensive though...

Siegers, even more defensive than guard.

Yep.  IG and Siege IG are the closest to what you describe with repsect to style.

TRC and Neal are right on the money. Based on what you outlined, IG or Siege Masters are the way to go!

I thought reading on here and other site that siege masters are a bit over powered?

What's the least powerful race in E:A?  I'm trying to persuade a friend (he's got Chaos and Eldar armies) to get back into Epic, but due to the series of pummelings I gave him with my Squats years ago he won't touch it at present..  :( Maybe if I can persuade him that the army I choose isn't that strong I might get a game or two...

Everytime I've asked, a non-planetary assaulting Space Marine army is the most 'liable' to deficiency. But then again, I've not had much experience in these regards.

Well, I race to your rescue. Peruse these boards and you will alight upon the suggested revisions that tone down the power.

Have also sent them to Andy to send to ERC, but no idea what has happened to them.

Guard are my favoured choice so far, I just can't resist putting out large formations of super heavy and medium tanks..

I'd just have to start collecting hundreds of infantry stands though which I'm not particularly enamoured with.

Will I have difficulties if I don't get a lot of infantry?  Is it possible to field a purely mechanised force and still have a fighting chance to win?

Russ Companies are tough but they do need some kind of infantry support IMO. You don't have to field hundreds of infantry stands though. It is enough to have a few acting in support of your armour if you want to play a "Tank regiment" style army. Such an army might get into trouble when facing MW/TK heavy armies though as it will not have an infantry heavy army's ability to soak up damage.

I've seen lots of successful forces that have just the supreme commanders infantry company.
