To L3,

(On US Army)And isn't there usually a third HQ , which deals with things that most people tend to overlook....Logistics !

ps. one of the other things i noticed (in the Tallarn TO+E) was the lack of AOP's and their transport.

I presume they use Salamanders ...or perhaps Sentinels.

Also , Roughriders don't appear on the TO+E as they would be  attached from a Cavalry Regt...no?

L4 here ... don't know who L3 is ! ! :;): ?Anyway, yes, a Bde has a Support Element slice in the form of a Forward Support Bn (commanded by an LTC) - FSB. ?Includes Maint., Med, Transports, Supply and Material assets, etc. ?I was ?the BMO - Bde Maint. Officer in the 197th Cbt Spt Bn, for almost 18 months. ?I was not trained as a BMO, but after all that time in the line (almost 5 years in Central America, Korea, etc ...), I knew how to "make things happen" ! ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?Don't know about the Tallarn, (didn't serve with them ?! :;): ) ?But Salamanders & Sentinels makes sense ... ? ? ? ? ? ? And R/Riders would be in the CAV, but in SM1 MTO&Es R/Riders could be in Scout units as well. ?In any event, CAV's missions include Recon (screening, pursuit, exploitation). ? Let L3 know ! ?:p

Indeed.  :/

A certain little someone could probably play the whole Taros campaign in epic scale with the forces he has and still have enough left over to play a little something. Like, say, the 13th black crusade...    :alien:

Cheers Mojarn. :D

It looks like i guessed right about the number of Heavy weapons for each battalion.

I have the IG in 3 companies to a battalion (though only with 4 platoons each) , and 18 mortars (2 stands) in support.

I don't field the AT heavy weapons as my IG are all old style with shoulder carried Las-cannon. ?Trust me , they don't need any more AT ability.

The IG Infantry Regt. is much more numerous than i expected. The Regt is over 11,000 strong . I'm pretty sure i read in the IG Codex that Regts. are supposed to fit into a Navy transport with ?room for only 3,000.

Thats one piece of fluff that can be discarded.

Also , they seem to be light on AA ability . 20 Hydras for an entire Regt !
The Manticore has an AA ability (in some novels) but they are
absent......Hmmmmn ???

Well, the IG regiments seem to be _very_ different. For example, I find it strange that the Cadian 114th Mech has no tanks at all while the 17th Tallarn _infantry_ has about a battalion.  ???

In the IA1 it is also said that Manticores can fire SAMs.

And they do seem to be a bit light on  AA, but at least they have a (weak) AA battalion for the regiment. In the last great international live-ammunition excercise (WWII) the one and only Finnish armored divison had only 6 SP AA guns as some genius decided to save some money when purchasing equipment.

Seems big for a Rgt ??? ... However never heard of rules for Manticore AA, but IIRC, in an old Epic Mag or CJ ... they mentioned giving Whirlwinds AA in the E40K era. ?I guess "Manties" could be the same ? ?And with the proliferation of Aircraft in Epic ... AAA is needed in all armies/games. ?Just as in Modern warfare since WWII.             Our "Flak Boyz" motto in the ROK was; "If it flys - It Dies"  :D

I think the Manticores AAA was mentioned in one of Dan Abnetts books about ?Inquisitor Eisenhorn ?(Malleus ?).

The other thing about the AAA is that in a modern army , a division can call on assets from higher formations such as Corps ?, Army or Front.

As Regts are the highest formation in the Imperium where are all the long range , high altitude area defence AAA ?

And i remember the E40k rules (AAA whirlwinds) to, were they not in "Firepower" , the Black Library fanzine?

BTW had a great game of Warhead on Sunday , IG vs Chaos.
Unfortunately we ran out of time ,(to much talking and not enough shooting. :p ), so the result was indecisive.
