The M18 Claymore mine is a Vietnam era anti-personnel weapon. It has hundreds of OO buckshot size metal ball imbedded in a matrix of C4. Held in place in a plastic rectangular casing, a little bigger then the size of a VHS tape. ?When detonated, these creat a large shotgun affect for about 50 feet or so. At about 90 degrees to the front. Very deadly ... ?Slammers AFVs have similar type ordinance in a belt of these blocks around the outside of the hull ... ?Can be controlled by AI or manual ... ?Hope that answers your question, Luis ? ? ? ? ?:;):

1: Why does something have to exist in real life today in order to be a good idea in the future?

Because the more things change the more they stay the same... ?:D ?:p

Sorry had to do it. ?

I really like you second point of a variable load system. ?For specific mission hardware.

Maybe I'll just keep it flexible.

P.S - Thanks for the answer Legion.  When I serached for M9 I found the US army engiinering vehicle with a bulldozer.  I got very confused.

The Bradley's 25mm Chain Gun can fire AT or APers rounds, by flipping a switch !  Reality is a Mutha !

I heard stories of the Bradleys using their cannons to take out older main battle tanks the Iraqi had because of a new type of AP ammo.

Not bad for only a 25mm gun.

Yes, there are both M2s and M9s in both our universe and Hammer's ... but are clearly different AFVs !

I can think of a real life example of why armor needs some sort on anti-personnel weapon. The Elefant, aka Ferdinand and Panzerjager Tiger, when originally released didn't have a machine gun. Without one, it was a sitting duck for the Russkies (being slow as molasses didn't help either :p ). Eventually the Wehrmacht realized it would be a good idea to give it at least a bow machine gun.

I understand that tanks are designed to kill other tanks, but I still believe that they need some anti-infantry capability, even if it's only for ancillary purposes.

I think I'm going to have a drill a small whole in these models to represent a coax machine gun.

Thanks for all the ideas guys.

I like just to keep it opened eneded.  The missile system is a genral purpose mission weapon.  It can be anti-infantry, Anti-tank, bunker buster, naplam, anti-air. Lots of different ideas.

Biggest use today for MBT's is infantry support in urban areas (who would have thought!).

One that makes the most sense is a 'metalstorm' grenade launcher.

Multiple grenades, stacked in barrels, electronic firing system. Anti building/light vehicle/infantry/area denial the lot. Take a look.

witness the future

Why would you want two dedicated anti-tank weapons on the same chasis?

Do we have an example of that in real world.

Honestly I can't think of one off the top of my head CC...

In terms of cost effectiveness it's really not all that a great idea.

You'd have duplicate targeting systems effectively doubling the price of the system while more than likely *not* doubling your effectiveness.

The closest thing I can think of would be the Russian missiles that are designed to be fired out of their 125mm tank guns... I believe that those are mainly to give MBTs an anti-helicopter weapon though.

Combat ATGM

For deployed dual gun-missile systems the only one I can think of is a Russian SPAAG called the 2S6M Tunguska:

2S6M Tunguska

And just in case anyone cares I spent the last 4 years working for a defense contractor that does unexploded ordnance disposal so I've been neck deep in technical manuals for assorted ammunition and weapon systems... it would appear quite a bit of it has "stuck".
