I'm guessing that playing against myself won't quite cut the mustard?  :(

That said, I'd be quite inclined to participate should I get the opportunity. Forging an extra third of the Tau Empire was tremendous fun, I'd love to do it again. My only thing would be: What factions? What *scope*?

Is the system simply a series of largely insignificant worlds...mining worlds or something? Or something more significant...

Well, if you wanted to make it as available as possible, I'd say go with these sides:
Imperium (all kinds), Eldar, Tau vs. Chaos, Orks, Tyranids, Necrons
Though a more accurate one would exclude the nids.

As for scope... who cares? Multiple thousands of BFG points would already put it around the importance of the 13th Black Crusade or the War for Armageddon. Its made up.

I'll try to get some rule framework for the BFG side of things, my knowledge of Epic is fairly limited.

Hehehehe... there should also be a place for squat/demiurg armies in the "order" side (they could be squat refugees from the nyd assault or demiurg mercenaries fighting alongside the Tau). Maybe we could even include WH40k battles in the results, but they should "weight" less (maybe one-tenth?) than the larger, epic scale ones :)

Squat armies could easily be accomodated. Not Demiurg armies though, since there are none.

I'd still be keen for folks to look at the Demiurg Merc Detatchment that was proposed a bit back...

I think an arbitrary split would have to be made for Order and Disorder. That said, provision could perhaps be made for division like so(obviously wildly variable):

Chaos, Rebels and Warmongers (Chaos and Orks)
'Pests' (Necrons and Nids)
Vested Interests (Tau[and allies] and Eldar)
The Imperium of Man (IG, SM, TL, Inquisition, Squats)

Could be trickier, but it'd be 'that bit' more interesting 'IMO'

You know, we don't have to limit ourselves to just 2 sides. It seems to me that it should really be Imperials against everybody else, because that's what's in the background. Then, I'd suggest letting each race do its own thing, and the terms of victory for each race would unique. Also, I would bet that an imperial/non-imperial split would produce about an equal number of players.

Here's how I see things working, there are races that take and hold territory: imperial, tau, orks, chaos?, [exodites, too, but lets assume they're aren't in this subsector]; races that periodically raid territory: eldar (all types), chaos, ork (sometimes); and races that take territory and destroy/consume all useful resources: tyranids, necrons, chaos?.

Games between armies in the first group result in territory changing hands. Games between the 1st and 3rd groups either result in the 1st group losing territor, or the 3rd group being driven off. Games involving the the 2nd group determine whether the races achieve non-territorial objectives. Each race would start with some territories/palnets/systems, but only the 1st group could actually expand their territory in the campaign.

Ok, I need some time to unjumble my thoughts on this, I just want to suggest a more "every man for himself" type campaign instead of "ok, lets be friends and work together" BS thing. Then, we just need to give each race a suitably difficult objective (which woiuld probably be known to everyone in the campaign).

I like where you're going with your ideas, semaj. The campaign doesn't have to be the Imperium vs. everyone else.

Yes, every race on their own is best, aliances to be formed during the campaign .....

Maybe, maybe... i like rastamann's approach, and his background history. The only thing i would change is the time limit, at least for the final phase (maybe two months instead of one, so there could be results from as much people as possible...it seems that most people can only manage two play a game every one or two months, so it seems it would fit best the two month period)

Also, i can see another faction:

e. Squats - The space dwarves are refugees from the tyranid atack, just looking for a new home, or native populations which the Empire is trying to control, so they may challenge the Empire or the Tau for the control of planets and/or resources (just in case they have to flee again). Also, Squats are known for their fierce hatred against the orks (and now the nyds, too), so they may ally anyone (maybe even chaos????) if it gives them a chance of smashing some greenskins/bugs.

About making these a mixed BFG/Epic/40K game, i would say absolutely YES, but i still say that 40k games should influence less than the Epic/BFG ones

Is anyone working in the star system's description? i think i have a planetary system generator from the Star Trek RPG over here ???
