Well, a good old Eldar vs Eldar fight tonight!  

As well, I'm playing with a 10% point handicap to Ulthw? to see how that affect things with their higher Strategy Rating.

Setup

I had set up the table beforehand so Alaitoc picked sides, deciding on a corner deployment.

4'x4' Table - Corner deployment

Garrisons

Ulthw? kept the Warp Spiders and Jetbike Troupe 2 in the Wraithgate

Alaitoc kept the Swooping Hawks off board and garrisoned the Ranger Warhost off of Alaitoc Objective 1, stretching out towards Ulthw? Objective 1.

Turn 1

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Ulthw?

Unsure what to do at first, the Ulthw? Fire Prisms race forward on a double, performing a hit-and-run on the Alaitoc Falcons, popping up to blast apart one of the grav-tank and then darting back into cover.

The Alaitoc Guardians with Wraithlords double forward through the ruins moving towards the centre of the table, finding no targets.

The Ulthw? Falcons also double forward, firing on the War Walkers of the Ranger Warhost, but score no damaging hits and flit back to cover.

The second Alaitoc Guardian Warhost see nothing to fire on, despite the Rangers reports of nearby enemies, and double forward into the tree line.

The Ulthw? Guardians double forward into the central ruins and snap a few shots off at Alaitoc Guardian Warhost 2 to no effect.

Seeing targets, the Ranger Warhost advances into the barbed wire surrounded fallen citadel in the middle of the table, losing one of the Rangers to its cruel coils, and then fires ineffectively on the Ulthw? Guardians.

The Black Guardians double forward into the cover of ruins, firing on the Rangers to no effect.

The Alaitoc Falcons double forward, angling and popping up to fire on the Ulthw? Falcons, exacting a small measure of revenge by destroying one enemy Falcon.

The Wraithgate shimmers and the Warp Spiders flicker out to engage Guardian Warhost 2, the fighting is fierce, 3 Guardians and a Heavy Weapon Platform are shredded and two Warp Spider squads are killed, but the Aspects barely manage to win, pushing the Guardians back, before breaking and fleeing to the Black Rock.

Sensing weakness, the Alaitoc Jetbike Troupe advances on the broken Warp Spiders, popping up to kill another Aspect unit, before hiding ?behind a small copse of trees.

The Ulthw? bikes see that their enemy counterparts have taken the bait and zoom towards the edge of the woods, attempting to engage a single unit of Alaitoc Jetbikes. ?The Alaitoc riders decide to risk flying into the woods to get better shots at their attackers, and successfully navigate the trees. ?The fight is short and brutal, a single Ulthw? bike crashes and the Alaitoc skimmers are completely wiped out! ?The victors move forward.

Enraged by the deaths of his followers, the Autarch and his Aspect Warriors mount up in their Wave Serpents and double forward against the Jetbikes. ?Their massed fire destroys three more of the nimble skimmers and the Ulthw? pilots flee.

All formations except the lone Warp Spider Exarch rally.

Turn 2

The Black Guardians summon the Avatar to share the ruins they are in.

Strategy Roll: Ulthw? (My opponent and I rolled the same number on the die for Strategy Roll, against any other Eldar army, that would've meant him going first)

The Ulthw? Falcons press the advantage and advance on the Alaitoc Falcons destroying one of the war machines.

The Black Guardians engage the co-mingled Falcons and Ranger Warhost, with the support of the Ulthw? Falcons and Avatar. ?2 Ulthw? Guardians, a Heavy Weapon and a Support Weapon are killed, but all that remains of Alaitoc in the end is a single squad of Rangers which flee back towards Alaitoc lines.

The normal Ulthw? Guardians double towards the Autarch's unit and take down a single Wave Serpent.

Seeing fruit ripe for the plucking, the Autarch commands his Aspect Warriors and the nearby Guardians 2 to engage the Ulthw? Guardians, getting two of the Striking Scorpions and the Autarch in base contact with the enemy Wraithguard. ?The battle is hard fought (two rounds!) and things look good for Alaitoc, with 4 Ulthw? Guardians, a Wraithguard, a Heavy and a Support Weapon destroyed, until the death throes of the nearby Wraithguard kill the Autarch and some of his followers and everything falls apart. ?(Opponent rolled snake-eyes, and I got a six, and he had, overall, +4 to his roll? so Ulthw? won by one over two turns? Ulthw? *should've* been wiped out!) ?Everyone is broken and fleeing, but Ulthw? is somehow victorious. ?The survivors of the Autarch's unit fall back to the Alaitoc Blitz, and the Alaitoc Guardians retreat to the ruins, while the Ulthw? Guardians head for the trees.

The Alaitoc Guardians with Wraithlords double forward, losing a Wraithlord to a large pothole, to fire on the broken enemy Guardians, taking out a Support Weapon.

The Ulthw? Fire Prisms double towards Alaitoc Objective 2, popping up to lance the Wave Serpents of the fleeing Aspect Warriors, destroying them both and wiping out the unit.

The lone Alaitoc Ranger goes on overwatch, in the hope of protecting his brother Guardians.

Having nothing nearby to smash or burn, the Ulthw? Avatar doubles forward striding menacingly through the ruins to blast the broken unit of enemy Guardians taking out a Heavy Weapon Platform.

The Wraithgate opens and Ulthw? Jetbikes pour out to engage the broken Alaitoc Guardians, the overwatch shot of the Ranger doing little. ?Despite the support fire of the Ranger and the other nearby Guardians, only one Ulthw? Jetbike crashes and the broken Guardians are wiped out.

The two remaining bikes of Jetbike Troupe 1 rapidly march to the Alaitoc Blitz.

All remaining units except the Warp Spider Exarch rally?

Turn 3

The Alaitoc Swooping Hawks successfully land near the batter remnants of the Ulthw? Guardian Warhost and the Alaitoc Farseer summons their Avatar to them.

Strategy Roll: Ulthw? (My opponent and I rolled the same number on the die for Strategy Roll *AGAIN*! He was pissed? even though I would've still gone first *if* he'd gone first last time. ?*laugh*)

The Ulthw? Fire Prisms advance in place to pop up and fire on the Swooping Hawks, killing two of them.

The Ulthw? Jetbikes press in to engage the wounded Aspect Warriors, but one of them is able to get the Ulthw? Farseer co-mingled on the counter charge. ?The Farseer in question is slain, but the shuriken catapults of the Jetbikes make short work of the thin Hawk armour and they are completely wiped out.

Screaming in rage, the Alaitoc Avatar takes the nearby Guardian unit with him to, barely, engage the two remaining units of Ulthw? Guardian Warhost, completely annihilating them and sustaining no casualties.

The lone Ranger advances on the two hovering Ulthw? Jetbikes hoping to break them, but missing the shot.

After that, it's all just mop up?

End of Turn: Alaitoc 1 (BTS) vs Ulthw? 3 (Blitz, BTS, Take and Hold)

Well, it was a good game, and closer than it looked; the Autarch losing what should've been an easy victory was a real blow to Alaitoc, but massed Guardians shouldn't be underestimated. ?If I would've had the full 2000 points, that would've been another formation of Falcons or Aspects or Jetbikes (I'd've dropped support weapons or something to even it out), and I don't think Alaitoc could've handled it.

I feel the battle fully highlights the potential power of SR5, and particularly the advantage Ulthw? can take with it. ?It's a slight advantage, but one the Eldar can really exploit: ?A turn opening triple activation can be utterly devestating, and the more likely you are to go first, the worse it is for the enemy!

I don't like the idea of tying the SR level to a model; yes, it's kind of characterful (no pun intended!), but I think the mechanics are a bit funny dealing with their eventual death and what have you. ?As well, I'd most likely just put the Seer Council in a cheap Guardian unit and keep them in the Wraithgate to preserve the SR5! ?(Which, in the 2000-2700 point range is essentially a 10% handicap, which I've been more than willing to pay as it is!)

SR5 allows you to control table sides, objective placement, and deployment; going "first" against everyone execpt Marines, and then it's 50/50. ?From a purely power-gaming stance, unless you really like Aspect Warriors, why would you ever choose anything other than Ulthw? if you play Eldar? ?More bang for the same buck. ?I know other people have "felt" this before and maybe we haven't articulated it well enough, but I really feel this small point increase across the board for Ulthw? (And the numbers can be tweaked a bit so we don't wind up always being 15 points down. *laugh*) is something simple to implement and won't need extensive playtesting and will bring the list more into balance with other lists.

I believe Ulthw? *should* have SR5, it's entirely appropriate, but I believe they should pay for it. ?And the current "limitations" of the list, lesser Aspects essentially, do not balance the advantage.

What do you think about the comment in the other thread - that all Eldar should be bumped by a 10% increase? If you take another 10%, you would still be pretty much the same compared to other Eldar, but can you handle the double increase against other forces?

So, say 275 for a Falcon Troupe for other Craftworlds and 300 for Ulthw??  I could handle that.  It would certainly make games more challenging for the Eldar, which I don't think is a bad thing.
