I have to be careful when it comes to buying just to read the fluff. At one point I was buying books from three or four RPGs and some of the GW tuff just to read and I was not playing those games. :o

I had to stop myself. :blush:

Now I try very hard to only buy for games I play.

Hi!

The game is set in PR and the goal is to grow crops and trade them when the boat comes in while building better structures on your land and keeping your little people employed.

Interesting, did this game win a nomination for best board game? I remember seeing that somewhere. Strange that a German company would know where PR is or even place a game on it, wierd.

Been there, done that. At one time I owned most miniature game books available, it was horrible. I was the king of the impulse buy. I made a lot of people happy when I unloaded the stuff cheap (then again I bought it at a retail discount), I have since assumed your philosophy, only buy things I actually PLAY.

It goes easy on the pocketbook.

This is starting to sound like a session of +Wargamer's Anonymous+ ! :;):

My name is Tas, and I too have this problem...  Its just that at time of purchase I fool myself into believing that I either (a) really do intend to play this game or (b) am making a small inquery investment to see if I really do wish to expand into this area sometime in the future.

I have the moral fortitude of a boned chicken when it comes to such subjects... :D

Hi!

I think that in a real sense all gamers go through a "game-a-holic" phase. You get hooked on a few games, but you get the curiousity of seeing what else is out there and you buy, buy, buy. Usually you wake up one day and realize your mistake and go back to concentrting on one or two game systems. Of course, the amount of time you have will impact on how many systems you'll actually get into and play. Sometimes as you get older and free time is less you narrow the games you play due to the time you got available.

Primarch,

At one time, I wanted to play a lot of games, but now I only want to play ones that:

- I really like!

OR

- That I can use to expand the use of my miniature collection.

Practically, that means that I only buy minaitures rules for 6mm pieces and the occasional board game. I avoid collectable card games and Whiz Kidz Clikky Games like the plague and think of them as money pits.

However, since we're at Gameholics Anonymous, I must have 15+ sets of rules for either 6mm Modern Microarmour or 6mm Sci-fi.

I may have a problem, but I have no regrets... ?:laugh:

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak... err... Anonymous!

Other then the small walk on the CCG side :{ , I agree, I have little regret for most of what I have bought.

Hi!

I'm pretty much doing what you do now Maksim, but it was a long road to get there!

I have almost exclusively (like yourself) have stayed in the 6mm category, wether it be epic or WWII microarmor.

On a side note Maksim, what microarmor rules you prefer? I like the Spearhead rules, but have not tried several others like the new GHQ ones.

Primarch,

I'm not sure which system for microarmour I prefer anymore. I'd probably answer the one I ACTUALLY get to play, but that's hard to come by.

I'm finding that microarmour is rapidly becoming a dinosaur. Most groups do much more collecting than actual play.

I designed a system based on Epic guidelines for the Arab-Israeli conflict that I've been pretty happy with.

I'm not very fond of SH or MSH or GWSH. I have hard time time imagining what's happpening in SH battles and having it mean anything to me. SH reminds me of Epic-40k in that it's too abstract and while the game mechanics are great, very smooth running, the gameplay can be very uninspiring.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

P.S.
GWSH = Great War (W.W.I)
SH = Spearhead (W.W.II)
MSH = Modern (Post W.W.II)

Maksim-Smelchak,

Have you tried "Fist full of TOWS"? I liked the system, I just did not have as much time as I would have liked to play.

Hi!

I have tried FFTOW's, not a bad game.

Maksim, you remind me that on the netepic list there is an ongoing "pet project" to make WWII microarmor rules using the SM engine. I think I should contact the person involved to see how it goes. Perhaps we should share notes with what you have done for Arab-isreali conflicts.
