Hi,

I've been tinkering with the idea of scratch-building a Necron monolith for a few weeks, and after much research (here on this forum and on local DIY stores and supermarkets), here's my first attempt (with a Space Marine stand and a Land Raider for scale).

You'll notice the PVA glue is still wet, as I was eager to have your thoughts on it !

What do you think of the colour, by the way ? I wanted to do something different, but I'm afraid it's a bit too different...

Heh - one is an enginseer trade secret, so if tech-adept hojyn sells it, I'll be forking in royalties....

Nice work Hojyn - those green beady things work a treat, and tie the 'lith to the Necs. As for the colour scheme - I was planning something similar for my 40K Necrons! :cool:

Gosh, there's a load of keyboard bashers round here :laugh:

I like it Hojyn, very nicely done, if it were mine I'd be tempted to try some glyph type things on the larger surfaces but that would be it.

What I wanted from the start was something easy to do (and to re-do), so I needed widely available materials. From top to bottom they are:

- Computer key (I had an old keyboard in my basement, but I guess you can easily find some in... garbage dumps

)
- 20 mm GW stand
- upside-down 20 mm GW stand
- 20 mm GW stand
- 25 mm GW stand
- beads (I found them amongst the "girly" things in my local supermarket)
- 25 mm GW stand
- Flying stand (duh!)

Gluing the beads can be a bit long, and I'd advise you to buy two sizes of beads, since "closing" the square can be a bit difficult otherwise.

I'm still undecided whether to use this colour scheme or a more "classic" one (I'm tempted to paint Necrons in Boltgun metal ans Monoliths just as in the Codex : dark green with greenish edges). I'll this other scheme soon and post the result.

Yep. A nice example of Vanvlak's school of keyboard recycling. :laugh:

Seriously, that's a simple but effective conversion. Could do with a couple of Necron symbols, though.

EDIT: why is it that I can't nowadays make a single post without at least one typo that gets through preview?
