Its not in my extended verison.

I read that Peter Jackson really didnt like that part of the book so he decided from the outset to not make it and keep the happy ending in Gondor

Hi!

I'll be frank, while I love the books, I also love the films. What he left out and changed is okay in my view. It made for an entertaining film. I dont think an ad verbatim version of the books would have been as much fun to watch.

Then again I personally dont like Bombadil (always skip over that part of the book) and the battle of the shire I always thought overkill and anticlimatic after the REAL end with the victory and Gondor.

I was disappointed that the shire was missing. That had the right feel.

Ork: You hobbit, gerrof that pony and get to work. See this whip, you'll feel it if ya don't!
Merrit/Pippin: Ah, well. See this sword. Its sharp and sinks nicely in you, like this .

Yes. I'm no JRR, but man was it good . But granted the movies were good (and I have them in shelf). Only I could've happily lived without the Two Towers love drama...

totally agree there

FILMS: LOTR Films!

Hi Guys,

I thought the first LOTR movie was great and they went downhill from there.

Not including Shelob in The Twin Towers was horrible. I waited the entire second film for Shelob.

I think the films are by far the best ones that have ever been made for The Lord Of the Rings, but they are clearly as adaptation of the film, sort of like those movies that have "based on truth" disclaimers.

Shabbat Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

I have no problem with the film not being a verbatim representation of the book.

I have problem with things that were changed purely for the need to have some comic relief (Gimli in the Two Towers, f.ex.) or yet more action.

Actually I find it a bit strange that if someone complains about something not being in the film everybody else assumes he wants the film to be direct from the book.  :/

The Fellowship of the Ring was a great movie despite of several needed as well as several unneeded deviations from the book. The two Towers went downhill from there as Maksim says. Given that, I havent justified to myself the need to watch the third movie.

The LotR films are excellent at capturing the spirit and essence of the story without compromising it, spoiling it, or being so slavish to the plot of the books so as to keep everyone happy by including every fan's favourite bit and failing dismally to tell a great story (to whit: the Harry Potter films.  Entertaining, magical books; dull, poorly acted & characterised films).

I absolutely loved the films, I'd never read the books so I wasn't sure what to expect.  I was totally hooked from the beginning of the first film, and was kept so for the next two years until 'Return of the King' came out.  I blubbed big time at the end of 'RotK' - several times!

I really enjoyed the films.

I think the books work if you don't have much of an imagination, otherwise Tokien can be a little too descriptive without letting you imagine how you think it would look.

I do realise some people love the books, personally I found them overly detailed and descriptive.

I love the films. RotK was certainly worth it for the battle scenes alone.

Good first film got steadily worse bar the cavalry change in the 3rd film.

The films were ok and cut out a lot of boring detail (but not enough). I would change LOTR movies and books as follows:

-Remove characters who keep trying to start pages long elf poems, and hobbits who complain about being hungry every time they appear.
-Add more stuff about orks.

:p
