Edit, back home found some more guys.

Well I am biting the bullet and reconstituting my chapter (Ultramarines).

I have a long and sad history with marines. I started playing Epic 17 years ago now I guess. With the advent of 2nd ed I was tempted to bring my chapter into the shop (beckanham I think). Made up of stacks of metal 1st ed gear including my pride and joy veterins company of all metal 6mm marines.

Well, it got nicked to cut a long story short. I hung around hoping that it was a mistaken identity bag wise but no. I was gutted. Perhaps its one of the reasons I don't like second ed!

Well, the marines came back out during the Epic A playtesting I helped a friend with and last year disaster struck again. My army got pinched along with my bag (and civil service laptop but screw that) when i fell asleep on the train around Woolwich. At a stroke 5-6000 points went out the window. Whats more it was mostly sepcialists and 3rd ed metals, so bugger all scouts, razorbacks etc left. Plus hard to replace.

Now I've got a salamanders and Dark Angel force which is shy of a few models but alright, but I miss my little smurfs so i've finally done an audit of my availible marine models and here is the result. With this little lot what do you reckon is needed to field the old chapter again?

So, what should we have in the Chapter.
Note I like to make seperate stands for characters so the formation doesn't have to always take it.

Armoury - what should go in here? How much should a chapter command these days?
Aerospace
Need - Forge World Thunderhawks (the little ones)
Landers - unsure. May use counters/siloets for now.
1st company Terminators - 60 strip bases, 40 square bases
Terminators, reckon I need a packet of metal to make up the Character stands, plus another character pack so each formation can have a banner terminator. Characters will be on strip stands. Seperate to formations, figure 1 Supreme Commander, 2-3 Chaplains, 2-3 Librarians
Need - 2 Character packs, 1 Pack Terminators
Power armour. Like the ultramarines following behmouth these will be slowly built back up as I aquire more marines. Some characters will get roped in but its still 60 odd to go! All strip bases/scenic bases. These guys are the lookers.
2nd-5th companies
As normal - using strip bases.
Bike/landspeeder units alternatives also done for the assualt formations.

Estimated infantry needed.

I feel you pain. After one event I ran at I stores a large quantity of chaos and all my tyranids were stolen. It tooks a lot of cash to replace those loses. :(

Yep ! Got 2 Tac and 1 Dev Dets of metal Mk.VIs and a det or two of each of the metal SPT WPNs (Mortars, Rapiers, J/bikes, etc.)  :D  I'm so old school !  Plus enough stuff (SM1 thru E:A) to make 6 SM Rgts (DA, BA, UM, Salys, 2 SW) and 5 Traitor SM Bns (not CSM) ... like I said "old school" !  :laugh: :cool:

Hmm (planning burgalry). I loved those old models sniff. To make it worse the ones I have left are 21 poses that are identical (which is gutting as there were 20? different moulds) and only 3 squad leaders. I'm wondering how some of the new characters will fit however.

I blame 2nd ed personally.

Also why couldn't people nick my bloody 40k models instead? :)

At least my IG is safe, 200 odd leman russ and 4000 odd infantry and counting!

Still wish I could get more of the old metal Mk.VIs too ... just because ... :D   And I'm well armed ... so don't even think about an incursion ! :laugh:

Is all this the unpainted stuff?  Great googiley-moogiley! :80:

Assuming 1 Heavy/base for tacs, and 2/base for Devs, you'll need:
1st Coy.  80-ish termies, plus another 21-42 Tacs/6-12 HWs/3-6 Sarge (Depends on whether you want lots of PA Vets or not).
2nd-5th Coy.  4x (64 Tacs, 18 Assault, 28 HWs, 8 Sarge, 2 Assault Sarge)
6th-7th Coy.  2x (70 Tacs, 20 HWs, 10 Sarge)
8th Coy.  90 Assault, 10 Assault Sarge
9th Coy.  50 Tac Marines, 40 HWs, 10 Sarge
10th Coy.  80-odd Scouts (don't worry, scouts are cheap)

A Chapter should have 30+ Thunderhawks.  Yes, really.  The Ultras TO&E from the back of the 3rd ed codex shows 32.  :80:
You may also want more Landing Craft (sadly enough, I need about _20_ for the Dark Angels)
You may be a little light on Hunters, too (just another blister).
Double the number of Predators.
You should have more Tornado/Typhoons, but you're OK on standard Speeders.
You may want more Dreads.  You just barely have enough ATM.
I don't remember what companies supply the bike and speeder crews, but it'd be one company of Bikes+ABikes (my TO&E is 65 bikes, 10 Bike Sarge, 15 Abikes), and 50 (total all types) Speeders.

If you'd like to reduce your supply of Mk6's, I'd be more than happy to give them a good home (in DA Green, or perhaps SW grey, not UM blue, mind you). :p

Unpainted?! I feel I've already painted the bloody chapter twice! (not to mention the other chapters).
Will be doing each company plus its varients. good point about the Assault Sergeants forgot about them.
Cursed, packing, yet back in Europe soon!
You really want MK6 plastic marines? How many hundred would you like? Based or Unbased?

And what type of preds?
Also is it one Chaplain per company?
How many Librarians exist in a chapter?

There's 20ish LRaiders in the First Company (no Rhinos, IIRC), probably another 20-40 in the Armory (codex doesn't say).  There's a Rhino or 2 Razorbacks for every squad in the rest of the chapter, except the 8th coy.

IIRC, it's a 50/50 mix of Predator Annihilators (Lascannon) and Destructors (Autocannon/HB).

One chaplain per company, plus another 5ish in the chapter command echelon.

Librarians?  10-15?  It doesn't really say anywhere.

Yes, I'd like 2-3 hundred Mk6 Marines.  I'm trying to build the entire Dark Angels chapter in Epic (and the fleet in BFG), and I'm starting from scratch next year (2006).  I'd like as much variety as I can get away with in the force.

From Codex Space Marines 2nd, the Ultramarines have:
31 dreadnoughts
29 predators (14 destructors + 11 annihilators)
8 vindicators
9 whirlwinds
14 razorbacks
19 land raiders
There is one Captain, Chaplain, Apothecary and Standard Bearer per company.
There are possibly more or fewer Librarians than companies.

I sincerely hope that motor pool is after the UM got munched by Nids... It is definitely less than impressive.
Divided up between 10 companies -or even just the 5 first companies it is a pretty insignificant amount of armoured support. ...Then again I am a Marine Legion fan myself who live in a world where each chapter/legion should be 10-100.000 men strong at least. :;):

To my knowing this  list is from the time as the Ultramarines had jet rebuilded their 1st company but before Helveticus the Elder (the bearer of the Chapter Standard) died.
