Hi all, here's my latest oddity - the Kroot Spherodrome. This thingy is dropped off by the Warsphere, ignites its large engine to start reentry, and is slowed down by the planet atmosphere, glowing red hot as it drops to a crash skid on the ground. The less damaged examples of this tough vessel are set upright again and launched back for re-use.

Looks good IMO! Could do with being...'junked' out though. The Kroot Sphere itself as a model looks very untidy, and not really very spherical(more like an expanded and well shattered egg), looks of hull detailing on it, a bit cluttered almost. You know what the Death Star Surface looked like up close in A New Hope, kinda like that.
Then again, it's an interesting wee model. Apparently SG won't go for them though. 'One type of Kroot ship only' so I hear, but that any 'variation' could simply be a bigger or smaller/more advanced or less advanced/more finished ?or just started version of the same type of ship. So a Battlesphere is a heavily upgraded Warsphere, an Escort would be a bit of a 'proto' sphere and such.

Hi Xisor - as a reentry vessel (for Epic) I argued that a smooth shape would work beter for reentry as any fragile bits would be burnt off (nice excuse for laziness, eh? ) The spiky bits (tank drive wheels, of course) are presumably made of sterner stuff. the blackened fore area results from atmospheric reentry, by the way. BBQed Kroot, anyone?

All those nobbly bits apparently survive on the ship when it goes through atmospheric entry...and when it takes off again.
Nobbly bits on the top would be cool, with orange 'burning' or heated effects on the forward bottom of the ship to make it look like it's came all the way through the atmosphere would make a nice addition too.

Quote (vanvlak @ 05 Dec. 2005 (21:18)) | By the way - the sphere is actually, a widget, the thingy used in Guinness (and other) beer cans to keep the beer frothy. | I was wondering what you had used.
And I do think this looks better than the ork walk-a-loo!

Primarch - if the thingy has a ery empty hull, I'd say around 40 might fit inside - 40 Kroot, not stands! :O DS - I disagree, I still like walkerloo better
