Hi Gandalf,

Thanks for the review.

I'm still interested though.

*** How do you feel about SJG's OGRE? ***

I love Reaper's CAV minis, but the game doesn't do much for me. I like the card-based initiative sytem though. Very cool. Otherwise, the game is a sort of abstracted Battletech. It does run qwuickly and well though although I just can't seem to ever get myself enthused about it. CAV has now passed by my area. It's both come and gone.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Yes, I saw that Red Devil blunder too ... who did the research or editing ?! ???  I have the small OGRE game you mentioned.  We played it a lot years ago ... was a pretty good game as I remember ... I also remember another game just like it ...  Where the USSR vs. the USA in Alaska, in the near future ... it was good too !    :D

Gandalf, looking forward on your reviews of LotR and Pirates of the Spanish Main.

Good work.

Actually, I've never played it although I've been interested in it for some time. I picked up a mini game for it a few years ago, but the rulebbook inside was all messed up and misprinted, so I promptly returned it. This was the little set the size of a book that used counters. Neat little set, but I didn't risk buying another.

I've alos been interested in the newer ones with the nice card boards to play on, with minis. There's been a set released for G.E.V. too.

Someday I'll pick them up.

Hi Gandalf,

I can highly recommend SJG OGRE and have been playing it for years.

It's a great game... simple, but with meaningful tactical decisions.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Thanks Gandalf for the LoTR review
(actually thanks for all the reviews, but I'm focussed on that one  )
I have to say I'm in complete agreement with you, an ok skirmish game, and only if you're using a couple of favourite characters. I do like the minis though (and have a awful lot of them, mainly for use in roleplaying) as I do the older Mithril minis.

Maybe we just like reading your reviews? :p

However, your review, the facts that some friends already play it has convinced me in buying 2-4 Pirates ot Spanish Main packs.... if only it wasn't so expensive....:O

I concur  the entertainment value of your reviews is high.
Actually I'm the fanatic collector, I did get the game and didn't think that much of it so I doubt I'll ever actually play. Model wise I also agree, there is absolutly no reason gameswise to buy half a dozen Aragorns, or a cart! but collections wise it's a pretty good move.
I think it's pretty obvious by now that GW are not the slightest bit interested in the games really, only in shifting as many models as they possibly can.

but I would be interested in 'fictional' (I say fictional because it isn't official Tokkinen) scenerios involving a younger Gandalf, Boromir, or Aragorn

Boromir or Aragorn, could be. Gandalf, though, was never young. You, of all people, should know  :p

I came to that conclusion years ago when GW stopped releasing games that either don't require minis (like WHFRP) or only require a limited number (like Dungeonquest).

I don't remember who, but there were others who discussed doing/having done a travel version of Space Hulk. Sounds like a neat idea to me. :;):
